1 million jobs Controversy: Whoever gave data to Mahama must be investigated – Prof Boadi urges

Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Finance at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. Isaac Boadi has called on the government to investigate how President John Dramani Mahama was provided with inaccurate figures on job creation.

During the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Friday, February 27, President Mahama stated that “Over one million Ghanaians gained employment within the first two quarters of 2025. These numbers demonstrate that our policies are beginning to yield tangible benefits for households and young people across the country.”

However, data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) contradicts this claim.

According to the official Q1–Q3 Labour Force Statistics for 2025, employment increased by just over 330,000 persons, with female employment consistently exceeding male employment. The government statistician emphasized the 330,000 figure in a report.

Reacting to the discrepancy on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Prof. Boadi questioned the source of the figures presented to the president.

“Who gave this report to the President? It shouldn’t be ignored because one day it will be an international programme. So the one behind it must be investigated,” he said.
