2024 elections: NPP demands assurance on elections Security amidst chaos fears
Lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on security agencies to provide assurance that no individual or group will be above the law, regardless of political affiliation, during the December 7 elections.
Kodua expressed concerns about rumors and intelligence suggesting plans to cause chaos, particularly in the Ashanti region. He emphasized that violence should not play a role in the elections.
He sought clarification on the use of motorbikes at polling centers, citing past instances of chaos caused by motorbikes. Koduah cautioned media outlets to provide accurate information, warning that false reports could incite chaos.
Mr Frimpong expressed concerns about incidents of chaos and violence during previous by-elections, particularly in the party’s strongholds. He urged security agencies to address these concerns and ensure a violence-free election day.
Speaking at an election security task force engagement with the political parties at Police Headquarters in Accra, Mr Justin Frimpong Koduah emphasized that the party will respect the rule of law and due process.
The NPP General Secretary reiterated that elections should be peaceful, allowing citizens to express their choices without fear. He concluded by emphasizing that the ultimate winner of the elections should be Ghana, not a single political party.
