The 2024 Flagbearer for the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Rev. Dr. Christian Kwabena Andrews, who is popularly called Osofo Kyiri Abosom, has urged Ghanaians to reject the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) in the 2024 general election, since both parties have nothing new to offer Ghanaians.

According to him, Ghanaians need to change their mindsets and vote against the so-called two leading political parties in Ghana, that is, the NPP and the NDC, since both parties have had the opportunity to rule the country for several years but have failed to engender the needed development.

He, however, gave a firm assurance that when given the nod as the next president of Ghana, he would provide free port for everyone to get things cheap in the country’s ports, because it is not the ports that we are going to depend on to build the country but rather our natural resources.

“There is no longer going to be import duties on goods. There will be few charges on some goods from abroad so that things will be very cheap in the country,” he explained.

“The current taxes are unbearable and we are going to cut the killer taxes and revive the factories too. Ghanaians are going to enjoy free electricity under my administration,” he added.

Osofo Kyiri Abosom made these promises at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi on Monday, 29th January 2024, during an engagement with the media and some key stakeholders.

The engagement forms part of the strategy of the flagbearer and the leadership of GUM to share their ideas and solicit the views of Ghanaians, which will be factored in the manifesto of the party for this year’s elections.

He said his administration intended to provide free port and revive all state-owned enterprises as part of plans to reduce the high unemployment rate in the country.

Osofo Kyiri Abosom, who doubles as the founder and bank roller of GUM, said under his administration, Ghana would depend heavily on natural resources for revenue instead of borrowing.

According to him, countries like Togo have a relatively lower standard of living compared to that of Ghana because they have little to no natural resources to depend on.

“Togo has a free port; it doesn’t have natural resources like gold, diamond, bauxite, etc, but Togolese are enjoying free ports. Togo is doing better than Ghana and that is why Ghanaians go to buy things from there and bring them here to sell. Most of the women in Makola go and buy things from Togo and sell here,” he noted.

He revealed that he has the intention of reviving all the state-owned enterprises which were established by the administration of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah but have been abandoned and left to collapse by successive governments.

The GUM 2024 flagbearer, who emerged third in the 2020 elections, was very confident of winning the forthcoming general election. He cautioned Ghanaians not to make any mistake of voting for either Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP or former President John Mahama, the NDC flagbearer. ”Let’s all come together to change NDC and NPP to ensure accelerated growth,” he added.

The Ghana Union Movement (GUM) received its provisional certificate on September 24, 2019 from the Electoral Commission (EC) to commence operations.
