Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has made a strong appeal for party unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as preparations intensify ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking at the NPP Constituency Chairmen Caucus Conference held on Saturday, June 21, in Kumasi, Dr. Acheampong did not hold back in expressing his ambition, sending a clear signal about his future political plans.
“I’m not here to test the waters. I’m here for power,” he boldly declared, drawing enthusiastic applause from party leaders and grassroots members gathered at the event.
His address set the tone for what appears to be the beginning of a determined campaign to lead the NPP back into power. Dr. Acheampong traced his journey within the party — from grassroots mobilisation through to his service as a Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister — noting that these experiences have equipped him with the insight and readiness needed to steer the party forward.

He urged party members to rally behind a shared vision, emphasizing that internal cohesion would be critical to the NPP’s success in the upcoming elections.
Capturing the mood in the room, one constituency chairman remarked:
“This is not just about Bryan. It’s about building strength together as a party.”
Although the NPP’s flagbearer race is scheduled for January 31, 2026, Dr. Acheampong’s passionate remarks have already placed him firmly in the spotlight as a contender. His call for unity and clear declaration of intent signals that the race for the party’s leadership is gathering momentum.
Other notable figures who have declared their interest in the flagbearer position include Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Minister of Education and MP for Bosomtwe, and Kennedy Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central.
The coming months are expected to shape the direction of the party as it prepares to elect a new leader capable of returning the NPP to power in 2028.Source:dailymailgh.com
