ING.Francis Addai-Nimoh,the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer hopeful ,who doubles as two-term Member of Parliament (MP) for Mampong in the Ashanti region,has decided not to contest in the upcoming presidential primary of the party slated for January 31,2026,citing unreasonable & unhealthy monetisation of internal politics and three other reasons.
He said “following broad consultations, advice from my team members and careful reflections on the current circumstances of the party,”I have decided not to contest the NPP Presidential primary scheduled for January 31,2026”.
In a statement dated Wednesday,27th August,2025 , copied to “The New Trust ” newspaper,he said the decision is founded on the following reasons;
(1) Inappropriate political timing, January 31,2026,for the conduct of the Presidential primary.
(2)The Top-down approach to internal Party contests, which has been severely criticized by many party stalwarts, including myself, as politically imprudent.
ING.Francis Addai-Nimoh
(3) The seeming inclination and bias of Party executives towards one candidate.
(4) The unreasonable and unhealthy monetization of our internal politics,as evident in the the astronomical amount of Four Million and Six Hundred Thousand Ghana e(4.6 million) being demanded from each aspirant.
The factors,I believe, undermine the foundation of our democratic culture and place unethical emphasis on money rather than competency and winnability.. Nevertheless,I wish all the aspirants well in their campaigns.
Long live the NPP and long live our homeland, Ghana.
