The health Facility at Alavanyo Wudidi in Hohoe constituency lacks the basic tools and equipment to work efficiently and effectively.
A visit to the health facility exposed the nature and state of the poor condition health personnel there are working to provide care to patients who patronage the facility.
The centre was upgraded to its current state in June, 2015 by Korean Group known as KOFFI Group. It’s currently housed in the three-room facility and a single room bungalow for just one midwife who doubles as the doctor and the administrator .The centre lacks sufficient space for the many units and department as a functional health centre requires.
A staff nurse at the health facility, Wise Afertorgbor indicated that staff at the health facility resides miles away in the community so they need to walk through thick bushes and are normally attacked by snakes. He also indicated that “some rooms of the health facility have been taken over by bats who normally leave their droplets in the room.He also lamented that the facility lack comprehensive set of delivery tools including sterilizing equipment”.
In an interview with Mr.Emmanuel Adjato,a community nurse, he disclosed that during the Alavanyo-Nkonya conflict in the year 2015,the security personnel who was taking care of the facility lost his life at post and since then it is now difficult and scary to work in the night. He also said that the current security man is only there doing a voluntarily service or work and has no aim to protect the facility properly.
Mr.Adjato mentioned that “there is no laboratory technician to control the laboratory equipment to run laboratory test so we always transfer patients to other hospitals like Hoehoe hospital and other hospitals.”
According to Ms. Grace, a community nurse at the health facility disclosed that she was posted to Abehenase CHIPS Compound but due to lack of space she had no option but to operate from this health facility. She pleaded with the government and Non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) to come to their aid by providing them with more infrastructures, the needed tools and equipment since the facility is serving close to 4,000 people.
