Amoh Kamel secures 100% confirmation as Asokwa MCE

President John Mahama’s nominee for the Asokwa Municipal Assembly within Greater Kumasi, Mr. Amoh Kamel, has received an overwhelming confirmation from Assembly members.

The nominee, who doubles as Ashanti Regional Deputy Communications Director for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), obtained 100 per cent YES votes from 18 members.

The election was officially conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.

In his acceptance speech, the MCE-elect, Mr. Kamel, expressed his profound gratitude to President Mahama for the honour.

He thanked the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa, Madam Patricia Appiagyei, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and NDC constituency executives, NDC regional and National executives,nananom, among other stakeholders.

He was particularly grateful to the Assembly members for the confidence reposed in him. He promised to work hand in hand with the MP for the area and other stakeholders to promote development.

Besides, he thanked the former MCE for the area for his support and promised to build on his good track record.

Earlier, the Presiding Member (PM) for Asokwa, Nana Yaw Wiredu, cautioned against the politicisation of the work of the Assembly.

“As we all know, the Assembly is non-partisan and we should all help to maintain the Assembly as non-partisan for the development of this area,” he stressed.

He gave an assurance that there was going to be good news for them after the official voting. “Nananom and other stakeholders, we’re going to honour you all to serve as a good precedent,” he added.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Akwannuasah Gyimah, the former MCE; a representative of Asokwa MP, Madam Patricia Appiagyei; Asokwa NPP chairman, nananom, imams, the clergy, among other stakeholders.

The Asokwa MP, through her representative Nana Yaw Asare Bediako, pledged her unflinching support to the newly confirmed MCE for the betterment of Asokwa.

The representative of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, thanked the Assembly members for the 100 per cent confirmation of the nominee.

Nananom also pledged to support the new MCE for the development of the municipality. They called on the new MCE and Assembly members to always accord nananom with the needed respect in all their endeavours.
