Ash NPP Organizer Praises Gov’t for Absorbing BECE Registration Fees ,calls for extension of Exams Period
The Ashanti Regional Organizer for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Francis Adomako has heaps praises on Nana Akufo-Addo led Government for Absorbing the registration fees of over 600,000 candidates currently writing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across the country.
It would be recalled that government announced payment of Ghc 55 Million to West Africa Examination Council (WAEC to prepare for ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The Public Relations Officer of WAEC, Ms. Winifred Ampiaw disclosed that the funds received thus far amount to GH¢10.5 million for BECE and GH¢40 million for WASSCE.
The payment comes after the Minority in Parliament raised concerns about the outstanding debts owed WAEC.
According to WAEC,
a total number of 600,714 candidates, comprising 300,323 males and 300,391 females from 18,993 participating schools entered for the school examination
The hard working Organizer who is popularly known in the political space as Francois however, calls for the extension of the Five(5) days period for the BECE to at least Two weeks or Ten(10) working days.
According to him, this would go along to help the candidates give out their best devoid of stress.
Speaking to The New Trust Newspaper on the ongoing BECE which started on Monday,7th August and expected to end on Friday,11th
August,2023, Francois,an educationist by Profession said it was too stressful for BECE candidates who mostly write the exams outside their schools for the first time to write two(2) papers daily.
He said most of the candidates travel for long distance to examination centres for the Exams.
According to Francois, WASSCE students write exams in their schools
Uses about two months to write 8 papers
Their teachers invigilate them but BECE candidates write 9 or 10 papers in one week which is not fair.
The nature of BECE exams is such that the examiners thus those who set the questions are different.
They also have different invigilators supervising the exams unlike WASSCE candidates who are allowed to write a paper day at their School premises and mostly their own Tutors as invigilators.
It is against the backdrop,”I’m appealing to the WAEC, Ministry of Education among other stakeholders to consider the extension of the examination days to make it at least One paper per day for the source: tntnewspapergh.com
