Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the former Energy Minister and 2024 running mate to Dr Bawumia, has officially been recognised as a life patron for the Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) former executives.

The former executives disclosed this at a press briefing in Kumasi on Tuesday, 10th February, 2026, after calling on Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh to thank him for the massive support he gave them during the just-ended presidential primary that witnessed the re-election of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer for 2028.

The former NPP executives drawn from the 47 constituencies were led by Mr Kwabena Nsenkyire, the former regional vice chairman who was also Ashanti Regional NADMO director.

Speaking on behalf of the former executives, Mr Nsenkyire, a veteran politician who’s also a former Assembly Member for the Dischemso electoral area within the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), recalled that ahead of the party’s presidential primary, Napo, as he’s affectionately called in the political space, met them, and their colleagues who were having medical conditions were supported by a medical team, among the support to mobilise delegates to renew the mandate of Dr Bawumia.

He recalled that after the party officially recognised them to have a voting right, the meeting by Napo was the first of its kind.
Besides, the respect and support shown to them by Napo was exceptional.”Today, after the successful presidential primary, we’ve decided to call on him to show our appreciation for his continuous support and to also formally outdoor him as our life patron.
