The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Kennedy Kwasi Kankam, has showcased some unprecedented developmental projects for the municipality undertaken by the Akufo-Addo administration over the past seven years.

Various stakeholders, including chiefs, imams, representatives of political parties, among others, were surprised at the massive projects done by the government, especially projects undertaken by Mr. Kankam in just two years in office as MCE.

Some scenes from the tour

This came to light on Tuesday, 19th December 2023, when Mr. Kankam embarked on projects tour with the stakeholders ahead of the official inauguration of the projects on Thursday, 21st December 2023 in front of the new Assembly block at Asokore Mampong, the municipal capital.

The MCE said in order to save cost, they decided to use the new Assembly block and fire service station to symbolise about 45 physical projects, most of which had been completed across the municipality.

The Asokore Mampong MCE explained that it was, therefore, prudent to take stakeholders on a tour to the various project sites for them to have first-hand information in addition to the exhibition of the projects at the inauguration ceremony.

Mr.Kankam, acknowledged that some of the projects completed were initiated by his predecessors.

During the tour, the project sites team managed to observe a new administration block at Asokore Mampong, construction of a fire service station at Asokore Mampong, old Assembly block which has been painted, and construction of Technical and Vocational Training Centre (phase 2) at Asokore Mampong.

Others are security post at the entrance of the new Assembly block, construction of 1 No.6 unit classroom block (ground floor) at Sakafia SHS, Sawaba,
construction of 3 No.2 bedroom semi-detached bungalow for staff of the Assembly, construction of 310m block fence wall with security post at MCE’s bungalow and construction of Municipal Co-ordinating Director’s bungalow at Asokore Mampong.

Some of the projects are ongoing Kayaye project at Akwatialine, ongoing ‘Agenda 111’ hospital projects at Adenyase near Kumasi International Airport, water extension at Parkoso Old Town, ongoing Bombay shops construction at Akwatialine and construction of mechanised borehole with overhead tank in10 communities.

The rest of the projects are construction of gender-friendly 8 seater toilet with mechanised borehole at Asokore Mampong Market and Asokore Mampong R/C primary school as well as Nurul Ameen Basic School, new National Health Insurance (NHIS) office at Asawasi near the Central Mosque, GKMA institutional toilet projects to over 20 schools and health facilities within the municipality and dual desk distribution to basic schools in the Asokore Mampong Municipal.

The MCE revealed that as a result of the completion for nine apartments for the staff of the Assembly, they had saved two hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢200,000) the Assembly was spending annually to rent accommodation for the staff.

The MCE was, therefore, grateful to Nananom, the clergy, imams, the staff of the Assembly, among other stakeholders, for their support.

The MCE was also excited about the progress of work at the ongoing ‘Agenda 111’ hospital project. According to the project manager, the project will be handed over by November 2024. Also, work on a 100- bed hostel facility for Kayayes was going on steadily.

A number of chiefs and political parties representatives, who spoke to the media after the tour, commended the MCE and the Akufo-Addo administration for the massive projects and urged them to publicise their achievements to expose wrong perception that the government has not done much.

They admitted that they were excited about the developmental projects that had been done in the municipality.

They, therefore, pledged their unflinching support to him to help him do more for the area.
