The Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive, Chief Akwannuasah Gyimah has broken the ground for the construction of toilet facilities in six community schools including one Senior High school.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony Thursday morning at the New Asafo Basic Basic School in Asokwa, the MCE thanked the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources for securing the World Bank sponsored project.

The construction of these facilities ranging from nine (9) to sixteen seater toilets in the schools, the MCE noted would take the burden from school management who have had to struggle to find a place of convenience for both staff and pupils in the beneficiary schools.

“I am happy that government has been able to secure this facility from the world bank and is committed to putting up these toilet facilities in our schools for the use of our pupils and staff”, the MCE stated.

The MCE charged the selected contractors to ensure they work according to the timelines given and complete the work in 6months time.

He also tasked them to use quality materials and ensure that the project passes the quality assurance test as well as value for money.

Previously, the MCE stated that some contractors proved lethargic in executing projects they were given and delayed the completion of same.

“The Assembly knows that you secured these contracts through the bids you submitted in the tender processes in Accra and we may not have been directly involved but as supervisors we will ensure that you execute the project very well and finish same within the 6months timeline given”, Chief Akwannuasah stressed.

Caution:
The Project Coordinator for the World Bank, Emmanuel Obeng Atuah urged the contractors to work with the agreed contract terms and conditions.

He noted that the World Bank would sanction and penalise any of the contractors who without just cause delays the project.

The project he disclosed was as a result of the commitment of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources to improve hygiene and sanitation in schools across the country.

“I am part of the project coordinators for Kumasi and Asokwa and ours was to design the drawings and supervise the construction as well. I believe the contractors would deliver the project with quality work and deliver same to us according to the schedules agreed on since delays would attract punitive sanctions”, the project coordinator stated.

Schools:
Some of the Beneficiary schools are New Asafo MA Primary and JHS, Atonsu MA Basic and Bethel Primary School.

Others are Dompoase MA Basic and Kindergarten, Kaase MA JHS and Kaase Primary and Kindergarten as well as Kumasi High School, the only secondary school benefiting.
