ATWIMA NWABIAGYA NORTH NPP SITS ON TIME-BOMB AHEAD OF 2024 POLLS

By:A political desk report

Information reaching The New Trust Newspaper indicates that all is not well with the Atwima Nwabiagya North branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti region.

It would be recalled that an independent candidate emerges ahead of 2020 general elections due to unresolved similar internal wrangling and he managed to obtain  over 20, 000 votes.

The difference between the Independent candidate who was an aggrieved NPP member and the Party’s parliamentary candidate,Hon.Benito Owusu-Bio was about 8,000 votes .

This paper has learnt that after the thanksgiving service by the newly elected Constituency executive of the party in the area which was attended by the 2020 independent candidate and his supporters’ one would have taught the leadership in the area would work hard to build on the peace and unity atmosphere but opposite is the case.

Mr.Charles Osei,NPP activist in Atwima Nwabiagya North who doubles as a member of Ashanti NPP communication team on Tuesday, 20th September, 2022 nearly wept on the political show hosted by Oheneba Nana Aseidu on Wontumi TV/Radio over the division in the party.

He therefore begs the Regional chairman of the Party, Mr.Bernard Antwi Boasiako who is popularly known as Chairman Wontumi to immediately put his feet down to address the current division in the party before things get out of hands.

According to him,all is not well with Atwima Nwabiagya North NPP and some of them think that there is an urgent need for the leadership of the Party to sit all factions down and resolve all issues before 2024 polls.

The NPP communication team member said breaking the 8 starts from the polling station level to the national level. He said all acts that have potency to block their set target must be uprooted.

He lamented that it was a similar internal wrangling that led to NPP handing over to NDC in 2008 all due to apathy. Mr.Charles Osei revealed that due to current internal wrangling among the rank and file of the Party, known NPP members have decided to cross carpet and register for NDC membership cards.

“There is no peace in Atwima Nwabiagya North NPP and anyone who says all is well with Atwima Nwabiagya North NPP is not telling the truth. Many party members are not happy about what is going on and this must be addressed”.

He attributed the current uneasy tension in the party to the refusal by the constituency chairman to work with the appointed constituency executives.

He alleged that Atwima Nwabiagya North constituency chairman, Alhaji Abdul Salam says he cannot work with the appointed executives which was done with consultation with the MP in line with the Party’s constitution.

He said the Constituency chairman has gone further to appoint communication Director at the office of the constituency chairman in order not to have anything to do with the legitimate constituency communication’s director who was a delegate for both regional and national elections of the Party Executives.

Mr.Osei said already they are trying hard to calm down the constituent over poor road networks in the area as they hope government will soon come to their aid to improve upon the road networks. He said instead of party leadership there to come together as a united front to publicize the good works of the government led by Nana Addo, the constituency chairman who is the head is allegedly fuelling division. “I’m therefore begging Chairman Wontumi to quickly put his feet down and resolve the problem “.

When The New Trust Newspaper managed to contact Alhaji Abdul Salam,Atwima Nwabiagya North NPP chairman, he shoots down the allegation against. Even though, he admitted that the constituency is facing challenge over the appointees to make up the 17 constituency officers, he said the problem was not beyond their capability to resolve it.

Alhaji Salam revealed that the District Chief Executive(DCE) for the area few days ago met them over the issue and they were expected to report  back to her on way forward.

That they have all resolved not to discuss the matter in the media space but he was surprised to hear Mr.Charles Osei who is a failed polling contestant and spokesperson to his competitor in their constituency Executive election given opportunity on Regional Chairman’s Television and Radio station to make such allegation against him without giving him opportunity for his side of the story.

Alhaji Abdul Salam who was reluctant to speak on the issue lamented that Mr.Charles Osei is not part of constituency leadership and didn’t why he was given such space without their side of the story. He pleaded with this paper to give them time to give feedback to the DCE on the matter first before he could grant full interview on the matter  to the media.
