According to Elder Freddick Boamah, a frequent user of the road, and other residents and motorists who spoke to The New Trust newspaper online, the bridge serves important purposes not only for drivers and passengers, who use it to link adjoining communities from the Mampong-Ejura direction, but also for local farmers who have to cross it to their various farms.
The residents and motorists said the government, through the Ghana Highways Authority, should urgently fix the only bridge linking other communities to Ejura and its environs.
They cautioned that any delay in fixing the nearly collapsed Sataso bridge could plunge the nation into a serious disaster, especially the users of big trucks.

Vote for NPP to continue to transform the nation – Dr. Adutwum urges Ghanaians
Source: tntnewspapergh.com
The Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has urged Ghanaians to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the December 7th election to continue its development initiatives geared towards transforming the nation.
He explained that with the current state of development and initiatives put in place by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government, voting for NPP would ensure continuity and the introduction of many more of such good policies and initiatives that are gradually changing the standard of living of the people.
Dr Adutwum made the call when he spoke at a political forum dubbed “Meeting with the youth of Ablekuma Central Constituency” in the Greater Accra region.
Dr.Osei Yaw Adutwum speaking at the event
The event was organized by the NPP Parliamentary candidate for the area, Mr Jefferson Sackey. It aimed to explain the various interventions he had introduced in the area and what he sought to do when elected as the MP for the area during the December 7 election.
In attendance were some members of the party from all walks of life, constituents and students from selected second-cycle institutions in the area.
Historic caution
Dr Adutwum cautioned Ghanaians not to repeat the mistake it made during the 2008 general election in which it voted the NPP government out then led by President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration and regretted when NDC reversed all the gains made by President Agyekum Kufuor administration.
The Education Minister who is also the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe described Jefferson Sackey as a visionary and a very young intelligent man who had what it takes to bring transformation to Ablekuma’s central constituency.

Positive assurance
Mr Jefferson Sackey in his welcome remarks urged the people of Ablekuma to have faith in him and vote massively for him to represent them in Parliament.
He stated that even though he has not been elected as the MP for the area yet, they should look at the kind of support he had offered the constituents, adding that should they elect him, he would connect to all institutions in government to get them the support they may need.
Mr Lord Commey, Director of Operations at the Office of the President, on his part, added his voice to the call for all Ghanaians to consider voting for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and all NPP candidates to enable them to sustain and continue the ongoing transformation of the nation.
He described the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party as visionless and only thrived on liars and propaganda with the view to winning elections without thinking about the future generation and the country as a whole.

The learners, who constituted cohort two of the project passed the Accelerated Learning Programme (API) in literacy and numeracy in their mother tongue, and as such, have acquired the instructional training as outlined in the Complementary Basic Education (CBE) policy.
Some scenes from the event
Beneficiary districts of the programme in the region included Bunkprugu/Nakpanduri, Yunyoo/Nasuan, Chereponi, East Mamprusi, Mamprugu Moaduri and West Mamprusi District.
Hajia Nana Fatima High, GEOP Coordinator at a durbar held in Walewale in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region to officially transition learners into the mainstream schools, said learners prior to the transitioning were taken through rigorous baseline and end-line assessments.
The durbar held under the theme “Getting All Children Educated through Support to Schools and Communities” was organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with its implementing partners including Plan International Ghana among others.
It was attended by various stakeholders in education such as chiefs and other traditional and religious leaders, and community leaders, among others.
Hajia High indicated that GEOP for the past two years, have implemented two ALP cohorts in literacy and numeracy which have benefited approximately 38,443 learners.
She commended the Ministry of Education, World Bank, National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA) and other partners for their unwavering commitment to supporting out-of-school learners in the area.
She advised the learners saying “Always remember that education is your passport to a brighter future, so stay committed to this great cause and doors of opportunities will continue to unlock for you”.
The Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, in an address read for him by Nana Baffour Awuah, Director of Pre-Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education, said the Ministry has hitherto transitioned 17,340 learners into mainstream schools in the Savelugu Municipality of Northern Region after the successful completion of the first cohort of the ALP.
He said they have made a considerable improvement by increasing the number of learners in cohort two by 3, 673 learners.
He said education was the cornerstone of development, adding that the Ministry was implementing the GEOP to give school dropouts and street children a second chance to achieve their dreams.
Mr Sulemana Gbana Hor, the Northern Program Manager of Plan International Ghana an NGO, said they have supported in equipping teachers with the tools needed to improve teaching quality and learning outcomes in 239 mainstream school improvement programmes throughout three regions and in eleven districts.
He said “We have provided targeted training to teachers empowering them to deliver remedial lessons to underperforming students to facilitate their academic progress.
Mr Hor, urged all stakeholders in the region to recognize the importance of education, adding that it is not only about academic success but also about creating future leaders who would contribute to the growth and development of the communities and the nation at large.
Mr Simon Anaane Amokase, the North East Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) said the project has contributed to an increase in school enrollment and attendance and also helped to improve positive teaching and learning outcomes in the region.
He added that the involvement of parents and community members in the education processes of the learners has been enhanced.
Mr Seidu Mutalib Abubakari, a beneficiary and an ambassador of the project who is now a University graduate praised the Ministry of Education and partners, saying “But for their support some of us including many other children in the region would not have gotten formal education”.
Learners after the durbar received learning materials such as pens, pencils, erasers, mathematical sets, and sports kits among others to support them in the schools.
Businessman runs to High Court to uphold Speaker’s declaration of 4 vacant seats
Ghanaian businessman, Benjamin Yemoh Tetteh, has brought a lawsuit before the High Court, seeking judicial support for Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant.
The businessman insists that the action complies with Ghana’s constitutional requirements.
Mr Tetteh argues that the MPs in question vacated their seats by submitting nominations to contest as independent candidates, thus violating the conditions of their election.
In the October 25, lawsuit, Mr Tetteh requested the court to prevent these MPs from entering Parliament or carrying out any parliamentary functions until the case is settled.
Background
On October 18, the Supreme Court issued a stay of execution on Speaker Alban Bagbin’s ruling, which declared four parliamentary seats vacant.
This directive will remain in effect, not for the 10 days initially requested by the applicants, but until the Supreme Court delivers its final ruling on the case.
The application to stay the Speaker’s decision was filed by NPP MPs who sought the Court’s intervention to halt the enforcement of the ruling that would have affected three of their colleagues and one from the NDC.
The application was filed ex parte, meaning that neither Speaker Bagbin nor Parliament was joined to the case.
This allowed the Court to consider the NPP MPs’ request without requiring the participation or response of the Speaker or other parliamentary authorities at this stage.
The case was heard by a panel of Supreme Court justices presided over by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.
Other members of the panel included Justice Mariama Owusu, Justice Kwame Adibu Asiedu, Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu, and Justice Yaw Darko Asare, who together delivered the ruling to stay the Speaker’s decision.Source: myjoyonline.com
Tension looms in Bawku…as Dr.John Krugu Suspends Campaign ahead of December 7 polls
By:A news desk Report
Dr. John Kingsley Krugu, NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Zebilla Constituency and acting Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has suspended his campaign and all-party activities due to the escalating tensions in the Bawku Traditional Area (KTA).
The crisis began with Alhaji Seidu Abagre’s return to Bawku, who was enskinned as a rival Bawku Naba by the Nayiri in February 2023. This move was swiftly condemned by the government as illegal and a threat to national security ¹.
The government recognized Zugraan Asigri Abugrago Azoka II as the legitimate Bawku Naba and directed security agencies to arrest and prosecute anyone claiming the title.
A High Court in Bolgatanga issued an arrest warrant for Abagre, but the Appeals Court in Tamale overturned the decision. The Office of the Attorney General initially filed an appeal but later abandoned it.
Krugu views Abagre’s return as an act of provocation that could reignite the area’s crisis. He emphasized the people of Kusaug’s determination to protect their dignity and cultural heritage. Krugu is calling on the government to:
Issue a statement directing security agencies to arrest and prosecute Abagre if he claims the Bawku Naba title
- Enforce the laws of Ghana and protect the rights of the Kusaug people
- Maintain peace in the region and prevent further violence
Krugu urges the government to take decisive action, warning that he will take further steps to protect life and property in the KTA if necessary. He also calls on the people of Kusaug to remain calm despite the provocations.
Read the full statement below:
For Immediate Release – dated 25th October 2024
Concerning Developments on Bawku Crisis: Suspension of Campaigning
1. Since last night, I have been deeply concerned about recent developments that could
reignite the Bawku crisis and the entire Kusaug Traditional Area (KTA).
- In February last year, the Nayiri purportedly enskinned Alhaji Seidu Abagre as a rival
Bawku Naba.
This act, swiftly condemned by the government as illegible and a threat to
National Security, aggravated the volatile situation in Bawku and its environs. The
government’s immediate and unequivocal response was a testament to its commitment
to maintaining peace in the region, providing a sense of security to the people.
- In a statement condemning the purported enskinment issued on February 15, 2023,
the government re-iterated that the current Bawku Naba, Zugraan Asigri Abugrago
Azoka II, was the duly recognised Chief of Bawku. This recognition, gazetted by both
the Upper East Regional House and the National House of Chiefs, serves as a pillar of
stability in the region, keeping the public well-informed. -
In the same statement, the government directed the security agencies to arrest and
prosecute any other person who claimed to be Bawku Naba, adding that any further
developments that threaten the peace of the area will be swiftly dealt with. -
Subsequently, a High Court in Bolgatanga issued an arrest warrant for Alhaji Seidu
Abagre, who remained in Nalerigu after his purported enskinment, ostensibly to seek
cover under the Nayiri to avoid being arrested. Attempts to affect the Court warrant
were resisted at the palace of the Nayiri. -
Following the government’s decisions, including the issuance of a court arrest
warrant and other concerted efforts by the government and other stakeholders, peace
has gradually returned to the KTA. These efforts, which include the direction to security
agencies to arrest and prosecute any other person who claimed to be Bawku Naba,
demonstrate the government’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace in the area. -
The arrest warrant issued by the High Court in Bolgatanga was challenged at the
Appeals Court in Tamale, but quite curiously, the Office of the Attorney General put in a
written defence. The Court of Appeals recently ruled to overturn the High Court’s
decision. -
The Office of the Attorney General had filed an appeal against the decision of the
Court of Appeal. But in yet another twist, the Office of the Attorney General announced
that it had abandoned its intention to appeal to the decision of the Court of Appeal. -
I have reliable information indicating that Alhaji Seidu Abagre has returned to Bawku.
Tensions are already building up, potentially reigniting the area’s crisis. -
I view these recent series of curious coincidental developments as acts of
provocation that could have severe consequences for the peace of Bawku and the KTA. -
I would like to emphasise that the right to self-determination would not be varied
under any circumstances and that the people of Kusaug are determined to ensure their
dignity and cultural heritage are always protected. -
I am, by this release, calling on the Government to issue a statement directing the
security agencies to arrest and prosecute Alhaji Seidu Abagre should he and his assigns
act or insinuate in any way to suggest that he holds himself out as Bawku Naba. -
Should the government fail to act on time, I will take further appropriate steps to
protect life and property in the KTA. I am calling on the government to give meaning to
its February 15, 2023 statement, when the acts of provocation started, and also ensure
that the laws of Ghana are enforced and complied with by all. -
In the interim, I have suspended my campaign and all-party activities in the Zebilla
Constituency until the government takes decisive action on the ongoing acts and
potential threat to peace and security being instigated and perpetrated by Alhaji Seidu
Abagre and his accomplices. -
While we take steps to demand and ensure respect for the rule of law and the
enforcement of the laws of our country by the government, I call on the good people of
Kusaug to remain calm despite the acts of provocations.
Signed
Dr. John Kingsley Krugu,
Parliamentary Candidate,
Zebilla Constituency

The Presidential Candidate, NPP
The General Secretary, NPP
The Regional Chairman, NPP
