John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed his pledge to revive collapsed banks and financial institutions following a comprehensive and unbiased assessment
Expressing concern over Ghana’s escalating unemployment rate, he urged Ghanaians to support him overwhelmingly in the 2024 general elections to rejuvenate the struggling economy.
In an interaction with Ghanaians on Sunday, June 9, Mr Mahama acknowledged the rising discontent among Ghanaian youth.
He assured them of his commitment to fostering a nation characterized by shared growth and prosperity.
“My dear youth, while I agree with your justifiable anger and disappointments, I urge you to keep hope alive. Have faith in God and the power of your thumb. Ghanaians are in search of hope, hope they can believe in! Hope with the assurance that Ghana will be reset onto the path of progress and prosperity.
“Hope, knowing they can live in safe neighbourhoods and earn a living if they study hard, work hard, and live as law-abiding citizens. This is what Ghanaians are yearning for, and this is precisely what the NDC and I are presenting to you in this election of 2024.
“Exercise your franchise by voting for me, John Mahama, on 7th December 07 and for the NDC Parliamentary Candidate in your constituency. As your selfless, truthful, experienced, and visionary leader, I need your vote to reset Ghana. I assure you I will work with you to build a country of shared growth and prosperity.”
He stressed, “By resetting Ghana, I will repair the dangerous damage to our country’s economy and people.
Businessmen and women who government apparatchiks have given raw deals will have their say and can be assured of restoration. After a thorough and unbiased assessment, collapsed banks and financial institutions shall be restored. We will provide decent and well-paying jobs through my 24-hour economy initiative.

“Let me be clear: I am utterly appalled and disappointed by the unprecedented unemployment rate we are seeing today.”
Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta supervised the banking sector clean-up from mid-2017 to January 2020.
The clean-up saw a reduction in the number of banks from 34 to 23, whilst 347 microfinance institutions, 15 savings and loans and eight finance houses had their licences revoked.
The Vice-President of Ghana and Flagbearer for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), His Excellency Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, continues to send shivers down the spine of his political opponents following the mammoth reception he is being accorded in his ongoing campaign tour in the Ashanti Region.
Residents of the Ashanti Region have demonstrated their unwavering love for the flagbearer and are leaving no stone unturned in leading the NPP to ‘break the 8’ to continue the massive policies and programmes being championed by the Vice-President.
The entire Suame Magazine and its environs were this morning brought to a standstill when the NPP flagbearer and his entourage arrived to interact with artisanals and the constituents.
From the popular Suame Roundabout to Maakro, the enthusiastic residents could not hide their joy and excitement as they mobbed the Vice-President and his entourage.
MTN Ghana has launched the 2024 edition of its annual employee volunteer program called Y’ello Care. This year, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of MTN’s operations, the 21 Days of Y’ello Care has been extended to 30 Days.
In line with the theme “Education for Rural and Remote Communities,” MTN Ghana employee volunteers will implement a specialized program called “Quench and Connect.” Volunteers will assist in drilling digital boreholes in schools experiencing water shortages, enabling students to concentrate on their studies.
MTN employee volunteers will also establish container-based e-learning libraries equipped with computers, internet access, textbooks, storybooks, and supplementary reading materials to improve teaching and learning.
The initiatives also comprise data education and digital literacy workshops for both students and teachers. These projects aim to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the selected schools nationwide.
Another creative project the MTN employees will be working on is the setting up of smart farms which will be irrigated by the boreholes with smart devices to support irrigation.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the CEO of MTN Ghana Stephen Blewett said, “The theme emphasizes the important role education plays in transforming our communities, strengthening socio-economic growth and prosperity, and preparing our youth with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources for the future”.
“With the 2024 edition of 30 Days of Y’ello Care campaign we seek to provide modern amenities and educational facilities in line with our digital focus to bring innovation to the doorstep of these deprived schools. This will help demonstrate the limitless boundaries of technology and the opportunities it presents”, he added.
The Special Guest of Honor for the launch in Accra, the Deputy Minister of Education, Hon John Ntim Fordjour commended MTN Ghana for partnering the Ministry of Education over the years to improve education and help bridge the digital divide in the educational sector. He called on the partners and MTN employee volunteers to pool their efforts during the 30 Days of Y’ello Care to make a difference.
The Y’ello Care program was launched in Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi and was attended by MTN employee volunteers, Y’ello Care partners, some past beneficiaries of MTN Y’ello Care and representatives of MTN Ghana Foundation Board.
MTN Y’ello Care is an annual employee volunteerism program across the MTN Group, allowing staff to participate in community development projects in countries where MTN operates.
The initiative, which was started in 2007, has made a significant impact on millions of people and hundreds of communities across the continent. At the end of the program, the country with the most impactful projects wins a prize of $100,000 to be reinvested in community projects.
End.

The Vice-President of Ghana and Flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his promise to implement a flat rate tax policy and flat rate import duties in cedi if given the mandate to become the next President of Ghana.
According to him, if he wins the December 7 presidential election, he will grant individuals and companies tax amnesty to ensure smooth implementation of the flat rate tax system…
Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia
“I’m committed to implementing flat rate tax system and flat rate import duties system. I also intend to move Ghana from a cash-based economy to a credit-based economy,” he emphasised.
He explained that this would be based on a credit-scoring system Ghana is about to implement.
He noted that the credit-scoring system was not working because of lack of a reliable data but, fortunately, as a result of the implementation of the Ghana card system, in the next couple of months, the implementation of individuals credit score system would commence.
The flagbearer of the governing NPP announced these during his separate engagements with nananom, the clergy, Muslim leaders and professional associations in the Ashanti Region.
He said in sub-Saharan Africa, it is only South Africa that is implementing a credit-scoring system.
He stressed that he was going to focus more on digitalization in the following areas: land registration system, modernization of agriculture to empower farmers and create jobs, regulation of illegal mining, enhancing a private sector driven economy to help reduce government expenditure by three per cent, fighting against corruption through digitalisation, training of one million people in digitalisation, among other policies.
Dr. Bawumia said he would also focus more on rail transportation due to its economic importance.
With regard to the educational sector, the NPP flagbearer said no country could develop without investment in education, hence the decision of the Akufo-Addo administration to implement the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
He revealed that before NPP took over power in 2016, the school enrolment at the SHS level stood at 800,000 and as of the end of 2023, the number had increased to 1.4 million.
Apart from that, the government has invested about 6 billion cedis in TVET education, STEM programmes, among other interventions.
He said when given the nod as President, he would build upon the solid foundation that had been laid.
According to him, the results of WAEC and the enrolment of girls have been very encouraging.
Dr. Bawumia announced that before the end of this year, E-gate would be implemented at airports.
He continued, “I believe that in my position as a vice-president, we have done a lot. We (NPP) have outperformed the NDC government. In fact, NDC is not even our standard but the developed countries.”
He said to help reduce the cost of energy, he had decided to implement
solar power generation…to reduce the cost of energy consumption.
In conclusion, Dr. Bawumia urged Ghanaians to have confidence in him and vote massively for him in the December 7 general election.
“I’m contesting to be the next president of Ghana and
most people say I have been an impactful vice-president, so once I have passed vice-president class, promote me to become the next President of Ghana!
“I have the commitment to fight corruption. I have presented a compelling vision to implement to ensure accelerated development…I will be more accountable as a president so that I can come back to you for a second term in office.
My main opponent is looking for four years and he says he will go for a honeymoon and after that you’ll not see him again to make any account,” he said.
“The world is going to a digital age; I’m the best person to take Ghana to the promised land,” he added.
Dr.Mathew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, the Energy Minister, was welcomed by residents of Kumasi with “our incoming Vice President chants” on Monday.
Napo, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, has been heavily tipped by political experts to partner Dr. Bawumia for the December polls.
Majority of NPP members, especially leading members of the party, have also thrown their support for Napo to partner Dr. Bawumia to snatch a resounding victory.
Kennedy Agyapong, who contested for the NPP flagbearer position and lost, has stated that he would only campaign for the party if Napo is made Dr. Bawumia’s running mate.
On Monday, Napo accompanied Dr. Bawumia to Kumasi for a three-day campaign tour in the Ashanti Region and wherever they visited Napo was given a rousing welcome.
“Napo is our incoming vice president, Napo is our incoming vice president” was heard all over the places Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team visited in the boisterous city.
Interestingly, Napo has not commented about the possibility of him being picked as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate so far even though the topic is all over in the media.
Sources from Napo’s camp have said the Energy Minister’s main ambition is to help Dr. Bawumia to lead the NPP to retain power and lead Ghana to the Promised Land.
Napo, clearly, is the best performing minister in the President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, having performed exceptionally well in two crucial ministries.
For instance, Napo worked assiduously to introduce the NPP government’s flagship programme, the free Senior High School (SHS) policy few months in government.
The Manhyia South Lawmaker, who is very intelligent and hard working, has also lived up to expectations by stabilizing power supply as the Energy Minister, so far.
