#DumsorMustStop vigil to proceed on June 8
By:Fred Duhoe
The organizers of the #DumsorMustStop vigil have announced that the protest will proceed on Saturday, June 8, 2024.
The move comes after the Ghana Police Service filed an injunction application to halt the vigil, citing concerns about the proximity of the protest location to a security installation.
The organizers, led by Henry Osei, held a press conference on Wednesday, June 5, where they confirmed that all issues with the police have been resolved.

Organisers of the #DumsorMust Stop vigil Salom Ramado, Yvonne Nelson and Henry Osei Akoto (L to R)
Mr Osei assured the public that the protest would be peaceful and that the police had assured them of maximum protection.
The #DumsorMustStop vigil aims to pressure the government to resolve the country’s power crisis, which has seen many parts of Ghana experience intermittent power supply at peak hours.
The organizers blame the government’s inability to pay for required fuel as asserted by independent power producers for the crisis.
According to Mr Osei, the public is expected to join the vigil on June 8, with participants marching peacefully from the University of Ghana to Tetteh Quarshie Interchange.
The organizers also highlighted the stark contrast between the country’s electricity generation capacity and actual supply.
They have urged the public to join the vigil and demand a solution to the country’s power crisis.
“We engaged the police yesterday, we sat down with them and everything went on successfully. We discussed our routes and they assured us of maximum protection of the day. We’ve also taken into consideration so many things in terms of our security.
“What we will advise the general public is that when they are coming, we expect them to come and join us march peacefully from the University of Ghana to Tetteh Quarshie Interchange.”
Henry Nana Boakye Writes: NDC’s LIES EXPOSED
My attention has been drawn to a statement by NDC’s National Communication officer claiming that the judge in the ambulance trial has directed the Attorney General, Godfred Dame, “to stay away from the trial on grounds of professional and prosecutorial misconduct”.
Some scenes after the court proceedings
This statement is blatant falsehood and a complete misrepresentation of what transpired in court today. As a matter of fact, the court dismissed all the four applications filed by Dr Ato Forson and Richard Jakpa seeking to truncate the criminal trial and an order of inquiry into the conduct of the AG.
The court said there was no legal ground for any of the applications by the two accused persons. Obviously, disappointed by the ruling, The NDC is only seeking to mislead and deceive the public once again.
The learned judge only advised the AG that in view of all that had happened, she would advise him not to personally conduct the matter but rather allow the other attorneys of the Office of the Attorney-General to continue with the trial. The judge actually clarified after the ruling that she never ordered the Attorney-General not to continue handling the matter.
On the issue of the admission of the secretly recorded telephone conversation, the court stated that the admission of the tape has no bearing on the weight to be placed on it.
In the circumstances of this case, the judge said that the tape was not relevant as the conversation did not show that the Attorney-General asked Richard Jakpa to help him make his case.
She said she had listened to the tape 10 times and did not hear the Attorney-General say those words. On the contrary, those words came from Richard Jakpa himself.

NSS, KNUST to forge strategic partnership
The National Service Scheme (NSS) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) are set to enhance their collaboration through a new strategic initiative.
A statement issued by the KNUST and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said this was announced by Mr Osei Assibey Antwi, the Executive Director of NSS during a courtesy call on Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Mr Antwi highlighted the longstanding relationship between NSS and KNUST, recognising the mutual benefits it has brought over the years.
Prof.Rita Akosua Dickson,Mr.Osei Assibey Antwi among others
He emphasised the importance of deepening this partnership by identifying new areas for further improvement and providing additional support.
He said a key proposal was the establishment of a dedicated NSS office space on the KNUST campus to address logistical challenges faced by NSS personnel, who must currently leave their official duties to visit district offices to submit evaluation forms.
“The new office, when established, will streamline administrative processes, facilitate the timely disbursement of allowances, and enable better planning by accurately forecasting the number of graduates ready for service, thereby reducing skills mismatch,” he said.
Mr Antwi expressed interest in collaborating with KNUST on research and data analysis to understand the evolving demands of various industries.
This would ensure that the training and deployment of National Service Personnel aligned with market needs.
He also proposed formalising the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), covering fields such as agricultural engineering, sports science, business and accounting.
Prince Kankam Boadu, the Ashanti Regional NSS Director, who accompanied Mr Antwi, praised KNUST for its exemplary organisation of a recent orientation programme for national service personnel, which saw a significant turnout at the Great Hall.
During the visit, the NSS leaders presented the National Service Policy (2024-2034) to the Vice-Chancellor.
Professor Dickson commended the NSS for its vital role within the University framework and encouraged close collaboration in drafting the proposed MoU to ensure a seamless transition and effective implementation of the collaborative initiatives.
She reaffirmed KNUST’s commitment to supporting the NSS in enhancing their systems and providing essential support to graduates.
Also present at the meeting were Professor Christian Agyare, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, KNUST, and Mr Andrew Kwasi Boateng, Registrar of the KNUST.Source: GNA
Alan expresses concern over loss of confidence in Ghana’s economy
Founder of the Movement for Change and presidential hopeful, Alan Kyerematen, has expressed concern over what he describes as the loss of confidence in Ghana’s economy amid cedi depreciation, sparking speculation and inflation fears.
He said Ghanaians were speculating on the value of the local currency, causing many to rush to buy dollars and other foreign currencies to mitigate the impact of inflation on their savings.
The 2024 presidential hopeful stated this while addressing a mini rally in Koforidua, where he spoke with traders, market women, and the youth.
Alan Kyerematen
He also met with clergymen and students from the Koforidua Technical University, urging them to support him in the upcoming December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The Ghana cedi has faced a crisis in recent years, sparking widespread concern over its weakening against major foreign currencies.
Data from the Bank of Ghana quoted the interbank exchange at around ¢12 to a dollar in January 2024, but by May, it had reached a high of ¢14.1 to a dollar.
Economic analysts have expressed concern over the continuous depreciation, with businesses and consumers feeling the impact of rising inflation and dwindling purchasing power.
Mr Kyerematen said the situation had led to loss of confidence by investors in the economy, hesitant to do business in the country due to the fear of potential losses.
He promised to introduce urgent robust measures and strategies to stabilize the currency and restore economic stability and confidence when elected as president.
He said his plan to bring back the economy was firmly grounded in the initiatives he led during his tenure as Minister of Trade and Industry.
Examples of those were the national export strategy to attain export revenue of $25 billion by 2030, reforms to the Forex Bureau sector, and the introduction of a digital platform for youth employment that promised job opportunities for graduates, he said.
He expressed optimism that those initiatives would restore confidence in the economy and lure investors back to Ghana.
Mr Kyerematen noted that focusing on exports was crucial because it would enable the country to expand its productive capacity and subsequently find a market beyond the domestic market.
He called for a change in the country’s political landscape, suggesting that it was time to move beyond the two main political parties, the NDC and NPP, which had dominated Ghana’s politics for over three decades without delivering significant improvements in the lives of the people.
He advocated a move beyond party manifesto promises to the adoption of a national development plan that prioritised continuity in governance.
Such a plan would serve as a pathway to promoting sustainable and stable development, and improve the lives of Ghanaians in key areas such as agriculture, healthcare, and education.Source: GNA
2024 Elections:Vote massively for Bawumia-Edmund Kyei appeals to Ghanaians
Read the full text of the statement.
Edmund Kyei writes: I plead with Ghanaian youth to have faith and vote massively for Dr. Bawumia
Opinion
Ghana began its Democratic Governance in 1992 and has brought five(5) Vice Presidents, which makes Dr Mahamudu Bawumia the 5th Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.
The Vice President has had a track record of just being the second in command after the President and always relying on the achievements of the President and Government without having any national policy or program attributed to the Vice President. H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has shown to be a record breaker of having many policies and programs to his credit and vice president of the Republic of Ghana.
The vice president has many achievements to himself aside from the general government policies and programs.
Edmund Kyei
Today, many Ghanaians are saved from the stress of queuing in long queues just to transfer mobile money from their network to different networks, today an MTN user can send mobile money to any other network through his or her MTN network same as other network users can also do.
The Ghana card identification for all Ghanaians is one great achievement the Vice President can always boast of. Getting access to medical products to hospital for patients has become so easy through the introduction of the Zipline drones, which transport these to hospitals at a speed to avoid any reliance.
Agenda 111, which seeks to build hundred and eleven(111) hospitals in districts across the country.
This has made access to medical attention easier than the old ways of travelling for long to seek medical attention.
The Zongo development fund has lifted the face of Zongo communities with many facilities and developmental projects.
The Go Taxi Ride program is also an intervention from the Vice President, which has tackled and slowed the unemployment rate by providing affordable vehicles to many Ghanaians who use them for commercial purposes.
The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana has shown to be up to task and trustworthy.
I plead with Ghanaian youth to have faith in him and hand over the steering wheel of this country into his hands as he has only pleaded for.
I am confident that he will deliver and make Ghana prosperous.

A/R: MTN Ghana launches 30 Days of Y’ello Care campaign in Kumasi
By: Isaac Amoah/tntnewspapergh.com
A leading telecommunication giant in Ghana, MTN Ghana, has officially launched its annual Y’ello Care employee volunteering programme in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.
The programme, which was launched on 5th June 2024, aims at achieving high participation from the employees of MTN Ghana to give back to the communities they serve.
Some scenes from the event
According to the officials of MTN Ghana, this year’s 21 Days Y’ello Care celebration has coincided with the 30-year anniversary of MTN, for which reason they have decided to do 30 Days of Y’ello Care campaign instead of the usual 21 days, starting from 1st June to 30th June across the country.
This year’s event is under the theme “Education for the Rural and Remote Communities – Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow”.
Speaking at the launch of the programme at the MTN Kaase Office, Mr Nii Adotey Mingle, the General Manager for Northern Business District, said, “The theme emphasises the important role education plays in transforming our communities, strengthening socio-economic growth and prosperity, and preparing our youth with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources for the future”.
According to him, the 2024 edition of 21 Days of Y’ello Care is a remarkable initiative that focuses on the commitment of MTN employees to the development of their communities.
He said, “For those hearing about Y’ello Care for the first time, let me tell you what it is all about.”

Mr Nii Adotey Mingle
He continued, “The 21 Days of Y’ello Care is an annual staff volunteer programme instituted 17 years ago to allow MTN staff across about 19 countries to volunteer their skills and services freely for the benefit of their communities, while investing in identified community improvement projects.”
“This is a cause close to our hearts and one that the MTN Ghana Foundation is dedicated to. We are delighted to be able to extend our support to these remote areas through our unique and innovative community improvement programme,” he added.
The General Manager said this year’s campaign had coincided with the 30th anniversary celebration of MTN and so this
year’s edition is called “30 Days of Y’ello Care.” The campaign is running from June 1st to June
30th.
Mr. Mingle said MTN believes that the 2024 edition of 30 Days of Y’ello Care campaign would significantly impact the communities it serves, help bridge some of the educational gaps and barriers faced in our
rural communities, and ultimately help shape an equitable digital future for Ghana.
He said to help create the change they want to see in Ghana and across Africa, MTNers, through the 30
Days of Y’ello Care, would help expand educational systems with more infrastructure and also provide resources and materials for teachers to succeed in the classroom, equip deprived schools with digital tools to bridge the digital divide and improve educational outcomes.
Aside from that, MTN staff members intend to empower learners with sustainable initiatives that will encourage them to stay in school and build valuable skills.
Mr. Mingle said given their 30th anniversary and 30 Days of Y’ello Care, MTN Ghana volunteers would drill boreholes in selected Senior high schools (SHSs) in a project dubbed “Quench and Connect for our main Campaign”.
The General Manager noted that “the interesting thing about Yello Care is that it has what I call a ‘competition for good’
element in it, so the winning country among 19 countries gets a cool $100,000. Isn’t that
wonderful? MTN Ghana, having previously won the Y’ello Care Challenge in 2010 and 2011,
is well positioned to win the challenge for the third time as we celebrate MTN’s 30th
anniversary.”
He, therefore, expressed his profound gratitude to all MTN employees for their contributions to the success of Y’ello Care over the years.
“This is why I encourage every single MTNer in Ghana to participate. I fully support this, and I
urge you to join fully,” he added.
He also thanked their esteemed partners for this year for their support in ensuring the success of the 2024 edition of 30 Days of Y’ello Care. “Your support is greatly appreciated!” he added.
Representatives of the selected beneficiary SHSs, including the representative of the Ejisu Municipal Education Director, Mr Kwabena Owusu, were full of praise for MTN Ghana for its decision to drill boreholes for selected schools, among other interventions.
ESTABLISH VOTE TRANSFER CENTRES IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS-NUGS to EC
Dear Commissioner,
REQUEST FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF VOTE TRANSFER CENTRES IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS
I hope this message finds you well. We, the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), write to respectfully request that the Electoral Commission of Ghana establishes centers on the various University campuses for our members who are registered voters but will be unable to vote in their designated constituencies due to educational pursuits.
Daniel Oppong Kyeremeh, President of National Union of Ghana Students 🇬🇭 (NUGS)
National Union of Ghana Students is the official representative body for all Ghanaian students, from basic to postgraduate level, both locally and internationally, NUGS is made up of six blocks, representing over 12.5 million students. Our primary goal is to advocate for the welfare and interests of Ghanaian students, while actively working with relevant stakeholders to promote quality and accessible education, regardless of ethnic, social, or religious consideration.
As you may be aware, many of our members are currently studying in various institutions across the country,
far from their hometowns. Many students during this period are writing their mid-semester exams, final year
students are also on the field heavily conducting researches for their final project works, the financial burden on
students to commute between their former place of voting and current campuses is also a huge problem
considering the economic situation in the country. We stand with students in all their plights and we know how inconvenient it will be for them.
We believe it is essential to ensure that these students can exercise their constitutional right to vote as enshrined in the 1992 constitution of Ghana;
Article 42 which states that “Every citizen of Ghana of eighteen years or above who is of sound mind has the right to vote”.
“A person shall be registered as a voter if they are a citizen of Ghana and are of eighteen years or above”according to Article 43 of the 1992 constitution.
We kindly request that the Electoral Commission takes the necessary steps to enable the limited transfer of votes for our members, in accordance with the following constitutional requirements:
Article 45 which states that “A voter shall vote at the polling station where they are registered” and Article 46which states that
“The Electoral Commission shall make regulations for the transfer of votes.”
We believe that this will ensure that our members are not disenfranchised and can fully participate in the democratic process come December, 2024.
All correspondence regarding this request should be made via; E-mail: Secretariat@nugs.org.gh or call +233 54 316 9495/+233 24 161 5737.
Thank you.
Yours Sincerely,
Daniel Oppong Kyeremeh Ismail Tuohesung Issahaque 57th President General Secretary
