I’ll make Eastern Region Ghana’s research and innovation hub – Alan Cash
Flagbearer and leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, has made a solemn pledge to make the Eastern Region Ghana’s premier research and innovation hub if elected president in the upcoming December polls.
Mr. Kyerematen made the pledge during his market tour of the Eastern Region on Thursday, March 21.
Aimed at engaging with market women to have a better understanding of the challenges they face, the Movement for Change leader was in seven communities, including Nwasam, Kade, Adeiso, Akwatia, Suhum, Asamankesse, and Koforidua.
Highlighting the region’s vast potential, Mr. Kyerematen emphasized its suitability for transformation into a research and innovation hub within the West African sub-region, citing its existing concentration of research centres affiliated with the University of Ghana.
He underscored the region’s unique attributes, including abundant land and diverse ethnic demographics.
Mr. Kyerematen articulated his vision to replicate the success of the Research Triangle and Silicon Valley in the United States of America, leveraging technology to drive national development.
He stressed that realizing this vision hinges on the people of the Eastern Region turning out in large numbers to vote for him in the upcoming elections.
Mr. Kyerematen underscored the importance of electing him, symbolically referred to as the “Butterfly,” to bring about the desired transformation.
Explaining his decision to run as an independent candidate, Mr. Kyerematen criticized both the National Democratic Congress and the governing New Patriotic Party for failing to meet the electorate’s expectations over the years.
He lamented their shared track record of resorting to International Monetary Fund interventions after successive terms in power.
Mr. Kyerematen urged Ghanaians to reconsider their voting patterns, advocating for a shift towards his candidacy to usher in the transformation needed for the country’s progress.Source:Citi Newsroom
Prof. Smart Sarpong: Hon Frema Opare suitable for the running mate slot, Decision rests on the Flagbearer
Source’tntnewspapergh.com
The Director of Research and Innovation at the Kumasi Technical University (KTU), Prof. Smart Sarpong, has weighed in on the comparative political prowess of Chief of Staff, Mrs. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare and NDC Running Mate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.
In a telephone interview on Kessben TV on Thursday, March 21, 2024, Prof. Sarpong asserted that while both individuals had a strong background in academia and have held ministerial positions, Frema Opare’s achievements in politics notably outweigh those of Prof. Opoku Agyemang.
Comparing roles
Drawing a parallel between their roles as former Minister of Education and current Chief of Staff respectively, Prof. Sarpong noted that although both individuals had made significant contributions in their respective fields, Mrs Opare’s ascent to the position of Chief of Staff demonstrates a remarkable accomplishment in Ghanaian politics.
Mrs. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare
“Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has become Minister of Education before and Mrs. Akosua Frema Opare has also become the current Chief of Staff…With both having also taught at the university level before, they are both almost at par in terms of head-to-head considerations,” he stated.
However, Prof. Sarpong emphasized that the highest level for a university lecturer is to become a professor, since it doesn’t necessarily mean one should become a Vice-Chancellor. He, therefore, stressed that Frema Opare has surpassed this highest level to become a Chief of Staff.
“Chief of Staff’s position is an enviable one because all the ministers salute her, he said, highlighting the pivotal role of the Chief of Staff in ensuring the smooth functioning of the government machinery and maintaining constant communication between the executive and the citizenry.
Political experience
Prof. Sarpong stated that Frema Opare had risen through the ranks to get to where she is currently, and so when it comes to education, her effects can be felt in the same vein as Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.
But Prof. Sarpong believes that Frema Opare’s extensive experience and strategic positioning within the political landscape make her a formidable candidate for higher political offices, such as the vice presidency.
Prof. Sarpong emphasised that Frema Opare’s grassroots political experience, citing her tenure as a former Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
He contrasts this with Prof. Opoku Agyemang’s lack of political representation at the constituency level, suggesting that Frema Opare’s familiarity with grassroots politics gives her an edge in connecting with the electorate.
“When it comes to discussions on who would better and ideally be the Running Mate and subsequent Vice President, it is more deserving and favorable for Frema Opare than Jane Naana Opoku. Because Frema was a grassroots MP before. For instance, she is a former Ayawaso West Wuogon Member of Parliament,” he stressed.
He added that Mrs. Osei-Opare has also been a former lecturer and Head of the Department of Home Science at the University of Ghana, and she has also served as the Country Director of Action Aid Ghana.
Vast advantages:
Based on these advantages, the KTU Director of Research and Innovation stated that Mrs Frema Opare would not encounter any challenges should she be selected as a running mate in her first attempt.
In his view, the Chief of Staff won’t also experience the low charisma and contributions of Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, who people perceived didn’t complement former President Mahama well.
It could be recalled that Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyemang partnered with Mr. Mahama for the 2020 election without delivering the Central Region, the home base.
“When it comes to the political analysis of the two women, Frema Opare is far ahead of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang. Frema Opare knows everything about politics, she knows everything about grassroots politics. She won’t lead a campaign to be anxious or shake because this won’t be her first time in politics…,” Prof. Sarpong stated.
Political debate:
Prof. Sarpong contends that in a hypothetical political debate between both women, Mrs Opare’s extensive political experience and grassroots connections would give her a distinct advantage.
He suggested that the Chief of Staff’s candidacy should be seriously considered by the NPP leadership, particularly by Vice President Bawumia, as they strategize for the upcoming elections.
He indicated that “if both Mrs Frema Opare and Prof. Jane go on a political campaign debate, it will be interesting because they’ll both have the flare to talk about their education portfolios, with Prof. Jane talking about UCC and Frema Opare talking about UG, which will be refreshing”.
“But when the debate enters politics, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang will find difficulties countering Mrs Frema Opare because she has no political experience. The Chief of Staff has seen it all, she served as an MP for more than one term in Parliament. Unlike Prof. Jane Naana, who hasn’t represented any constituency before. So it would be a really interesting debate for both women, but firstly, Frema Opare should pray she catches the eye of the flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, then we can talk about it,” he added.
Age factor:
Prof. Sarpong also dismissed concerns about Mrs Frema Opare’s age hindering her eligibility as a running mate, asserting that divine intervention ultimately determines political appointments.
He underscored the importance of Mrs Opare’s potential candidacy in bolstering the electoral prospects of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and assisting Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in securing victory in the 2024 elections.
Deep Cracks in Ash NPP…as 6 Regional Executives petition Nat’l Executive, Bawumia campaign team over Wontumi’s ‘unaccepted’ conducts
Some members of the Ashanti Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have petitioned the party’s national leadership and their flagbearer’s campaign team to call the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako alias Chairman Wontumi, to order.
They raised four (4) key issues that, if not resolved within the Ashanti Region, will jeopardise the party’s chances of breaking the 8.
A statement signed by six (6) out of ten (10) of the regional executives and copied to Peacefmonline.com suggested that there is a ‘crack’ within the party in their stronghold – hence, the need for the party’s national leadership to act swiftly or suffer the repercussions that may hinder the party’s success in the December 7 general election.
“We respectfully request that you intervene and address these concerns promptly. Our collective success in the upcoming campaign activities hinges heavily on cohesive and proactive leadership at all levels.” A portion of the statement reads.

22nd March, 2024
The General Secretary,
New Patriotic Party,
Headquarters Accra.
SUBJECT: PETITION AGAINST ASHANTI REGIONAL CHAIRMAN OF NPP
Dear Sir,
I write on behalf of SIX ELECTED ASHANTI REGIONAL EXECUTIVES of the party to bring to your attention some disturbing issues relating to the performance of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP.
These issues can impact negatively on the party’s unity and general effectiveness going into the 2024 general elections.
The issues are:
- FAILURE TO CONVENE REGULAR REGIONAL EXECUTIVES COMMITTEE MEETINGS. For over four months now the regional chairman has failed to call for a Regional Executive Committee meeting. The absence of these regular meetings hampers our ability to address critical matters and undermines the democratic processes within the regional party.
-
NEGLECT OF REGIONAL EXECUTIVES OVER PARTY ISSUES THAT NEED CONSENSUS. The regional chairman always makes unilateral decisions without the involvement of the regional executives on matters bothering the governance of the party in the region. According to the Memo issued by the General Secretary dated 16th March 2024, the regional party was to liaise with their respective team leaders to select a date and venue for the inauguration of their various regional campaign coordinating teams but this never happened in our region but was unilaterally done by the chairman without the involvement and knowledge of the regional party. The regional chairman has failed to engage with regional executives on the formation of campaign committees. This neglect has been a disincentive to the strategic planning and execution of campaign activities, leading to inefficiencies and missed opportunities.
-
UNRESOLVED DIVISION: Among Constituency Chairmen. The regional chairman has not shown interest in resolving the divisions among constituency chairmen. These unresolved conflicts not only create internal strife but also weaken our collective ability to mobilize support and deliver on our party’s objectives.
-
UNDERUTILIZATION OF PARTY STRUCTURES. Despite the available party structures in the region, the regional chairman has regrettably failed to effectively utilize them but prefers to work with his team at the neglect of the party structures. This underutilization diminishes the impact of our organizational framework and draws back our outreach and engagement capabilities.
These issues demand immediate attention to put things to ensure the smooth functioning of the party in the region and to uphold our values of transparency, inclusivity and effective leadership.
We respectfully request that you intervene and address these concerns promptly. Our collective success in the upcoming campaign activities hinges heavily on cohesive and proactive leadership at all levels.
We have resolved that the Sunday program should be postponed until the critical issues that have been raised are settled amicably.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,
……Signed………

2024 POLLS:COKA Appeals to Bawumia to Save NPP from Further division by naming his running mate sooner than later
Editor’s note: Unedited Statement by Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA)
The NPP seems to be at crossroads…
NPP has selected Dr. Mahammudu Bawumia (DMB) as our party flagbearer for 2024 elections. We have selected our Parliamentary candidates, constituted our campaign team and manifesto committees. The only Puzzle left is the selection of the running mate to partner our candidate and the party will be all ready for the 2024 elections.
It is a known fact that various interest groups within the party have started lobbying for their preferred candidate to be chosen as vice Presidential candidate.
To make the ticket of the paring more stronger many have urge NPP to choose it’s running mate from Ashanti region, the “World bank” of the party. So the lobbying is intense in Ashanti region and therefore seems to have created “tension and deep division” in Ashanti region.
NPP cannot afford to take Ashanti region for granted that is the hard core fact.
The NDC , our main opponent has made Ashanti region (NPP’s base ) their target to get more votes going into 2024 elections; not even their considered world bank, Volta region. It is therefore IMPORTANT we ( NPP) do not allow the selection of a running mate to divide Ashanti region the more.
Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA)
Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia
Fact, if Ashanti region fails NPP, the NPP party will be in BIG TROUBLE. The region need everybody to help break the 8. Let us not pressurize DMB, let’s allow him to make his best choice .
Furthermore, l also want to appeal to Dr. Bawumia , our candidate for 2024 to also save NPP from further division by naming his running mate sooner than later .
This will further help the party especially Ashanti region NPP from further deteriorating. By naming the running mate NOW, any fallouts could be managed and handled by the on-going reconciliation team in Ashanti region led by Mr. Edward Boateng.
Indeed, per our revised NPP constitution in article 13 section 3 (1) and (2) our candidate ought to have selected our running mate by close of December last year, 2023, however, per his request for extension it was granted by National Council. Recent events especially in Ashanti region are not encouraging.
As a concern Patriot my concern and that of many is that when the process is delayed the cracks becomes dipper and more disturbing which wouldn’t help the party’s course for our quest to break the 8.
Ghana and NPP need DMB to save the country from going back in development.
We need a running mate who will rejuvenate the base of our party in the region.
I contested for the regional chairmanship position. It was a fierce contest and unfortunately, l lost but I can’t turn my back to the party I love so much.
I am fully on board the Party’s campaign to help break the 8 and expect all others including parliamentary candidates who lost primaries to also join the campaign.
We have only one NPP. 2024 is the ultimate, let’s unite behind the big elephant.
We can do it Kukrudu Kukrudu Kukrudu!!! Coka, l care .
Stan Xoese Dogbe Writes:Wisdom does not necessarily come with age
I guess, like many of you on this blue app, you’ve seen and watched a video of a man sitting in the studios of a media house spewing some hogwash about John Mahama having married his running mate and a rather bizarre claim that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Running Mate is from the Northern Region and not Central.
The fact that media houses are giving oxygen to such ridiculous pronouncements is not my issue today because it has become established that in Ghana, just as it is in other countries, many of these mushrooming establishments are political outlets populated by persons who would otherwise not have had anything worthy to do but for the favour granted them by the owners of such outlets.
It is a realistic and scientific fact that the New Patriotic Party and Nana Akufo-Addo’s third-term candidate are aware that the people of Ghana have already decided the outcome of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Stan Xoese Dogbe
John Mahama will not only win the presidential election emphatically; the NDC is returning to parliament with a commanding majority, winning at least one hundred and sixty seats in the two hundred and seventy-five (six) member House.
Again, we know that the ruling party and its enthusiasts are aware that it is no longer just a matter of politics that their flag bearer’s reputation is a liar, dishonest and one whose words cannot be trusted.
That reputation, together with their poor record in government, the institutionalisation of corruption both in government and through their private sector cronies, wanton acts of tribalism, and amassing personal wealth at the detriment of badly required socio-economic infrastructure in our various communities, among other things, is the reason for the loud clamour for change and for Mahama to lead our dear nation to rebuild the damaged economy.
We also do know that the pair of Mahama and Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang worsens the challenges of the ruling party as it struggles to push forward plans and narratives to tackle the electoral risks it has been confronted with, especially in the Ashanti Region, where a large number of its traditional supporters have lost confidence in them, and find in Mahama a more visionary, honest, reliable, trustworthy and a nation builder who focuses on Country and not Tribe, Family or Friends.
They think using discredited personalities, mushrooming media houses, and credulous party members to concoct stories and spread lies can help erode Mahama’s growing support base ahead of December 07, 2024.
Even the top-level decision to attack Mahama using the spurious claim of late President Mills’ death fell through, with a whole president supervising the arrangement of fake family members and chiefs into the presidency.
The irrational story of marriage, and one not from the Central Region, is the next agenda item from a meeting in which they also intend to launch another unintelligent lie: that Mahama is sponsoring an attack on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, ostensibly to annoy the good people of the Ashanti Region and reduce Mahama’s growing influence there.
How funny! Who doesn’t know the relationship between Otumfuo and Mahama, which dates back many years, when Mahamadu Bawumia was a neophyte in politics?
The fact remains that Bawumia cannot match Mahama’s popularity and acceptance in Ashanti despite the region being the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party. Not even the planned distribution of graders and other equipment to open roads and grade them in abandoned communities of Ashanti and Ahafo will bring you any good outcomes.
We are aware of your rigging plans. We will thwart all those efforts, including the ones you are hatching with the Electoral Commission, in every corner of the Ashanti, Ahafo, Eastern and Central Regions.
We also await your Accra media friends’ launch of their corruption attacks on Mahama. You should listen to your honest researchers and consultants and desist as you have been cautioned.
I have just a few words about the man leading the running mate marriage story and disgracing himself everywhere. Was he not the same person who, together with his media houses, led the ‘John Kumah poisoned’ and other stories?
Wisdom is often associated with age, as it is believed that the older a person gets, the more life experience and knowledge they acquire. Wisdom, however, does not necessarily come with age. After all, was the aged person not once upon a time, a young person?
I have always argued, based on my life experiences with people—and I dare say I have experienced quite a lot of people at my young age—that some people, no matter what happens, will never realise that there is a difference between day and night. Some people will live their entire lives without gaining any real wisdom.
Happy Weekend.

Value of Ghana’s economy increased to GH₵841bn in 2023
The value of the economy in 2023 stood at GHS841.6bn relative to GH¢ 614.3bn representing a GH¢227bn increase from the previous year.
This was driven by the dominance of the services sector which contributed GH¢357.34 billion or 45.6% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), followed by industry with GH¢247.941 billion (31.7% of GDP), and agriculture at GH¢177.606 billion (22.7% of GDP).
Sub-sectors by share of GDP included crops (19.4%), trade and repair of vehicles, household goods (18.3%), mining and quarrying (12.9%), manufacturing (12.1%), and transport and storage (6.0%).
Already, the government anticipates that Ghana’s economy will surpass one GHS 1tn in 2024.
Per the latest data from the Ghana Statistical Service, the cumulative growth of the economy stood at 2.9 percent in 2023.
This is a 0.9 percentage points drop from the 3.8 percent recorded in 2022 but higher than the government’s revised target of 1.5 percent for the period under review.
The fourth quarter also expanded by 3.8 percent. This was the highest for the four quarters of the year 2023.
The annual growth was largely dominated by the service sector which recorded an annual rate of 5.5 percent. The growth rate for the industry sector, however, contracted.
In more than a decade four out of the 22 sub-sectors including crops, trade, repair of vehicles and
household goods; mining, quarrying and manufacturing accounted for more than 50 percent of Ghana’s GDP which is increasing over time as the last two have recorded a share of more than 60 percent.
Gross National Income per capita from a local currency perspective has more than doubled since 2018 from GH¢ 9,813 to GH¢ 25,349, however from a dollar viewpoint the income per head has remained about the same in the last six years, ranging from a highest US$ 2,453 to a lowest of US$ 2,126.Source:Nii Larte Lartey
