The exercise which was organized by telecom giant, MTN Ghana, is in its 13th year having begun in 2011 across the country.
Taking their turns, the excited looking students at their various campuses donated blood after going through the regular checks from the medical team from KATH.
At Prempeh College, about 90 students had donated blood in just one hour of the exercise while others were in queue waiting to do same.
MTN Official:
Speaking to the media, Nii Adotey Mingle, General Manager of MTN Northern Business District noted the commitment of the company to continue to facilitate the blood donation exercise across the country.
He said the motivation of MTN is to help improve the health care delivery in the country, adding that his outfit was committed to facilitate the voluntary donations so that the blood banks across the country could get enough to deal with emergencies.
MTN, he noted, realized that Valentine’s Day was ideal to carry out these outreach donations since the giving of blood better showed how one can be loving and caring as the day depicts.
“What more can one do to show love than to donate blood to save lives and so for us this is the reason we chose Valentine’s day and this year the target is to do 7, 000 units of blood across the country’’, the General Manager stated.
Transfusion Medicine Unit:
Madam Leslie Osei, Head of Komfo Anokye Medicine Transfusion Unit commended MTN for carrying out these outreach donation to shore up stock at the Blood Bank.
She noted her unit uses blood to treat emergencies including accidents and deliveries throughout the year.
The transfusion unit, she noted is happy that corporate institutions such as MTN and others have been whipping up interest in people to voluntarily donate blood to restock blood banks.
‘’For us at the Medicine Transfusion Unit we find this gesture by MTN commendable and we are also grateful to authorities at these three schools for allowing their students to voluntary donate blood to help restock blood banks across Ghana’’, Dr Osei stated. Source: By Michael Ofosu-Afriyie

MTN empowers KNUST students at Success Africa Summit
MTN-Ghana recently collaborated with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) students to impart entrepreneurial skills through digital platforms at the 17th edition of the Success Africa Summit held on the university’s campus in Kumasi.
Organized by the LEC Group, a hub focused on youth education through conferences and training, the summit aimed to inspire and foster greatness among young individuals by providing opportunities to connect with CEOs and accomplished personalities.
Since its inception in 2008, the summit has toured various university campuses across Ghana and parts of Africa, preparing students for the job market post-graduation.
A scene from the Summit
As the main sponsors for the 2024 Summit, MTN Ghana officials engaged with over 1000 participants, highlighting the benefits of their digital products and services. Mr. Samuel Andoh, the Territory Sales Controller for MTN Ghana, emphasized the convenience of innovative products such as My MTN, MoMo, and Ayoba Apps, urging students to leverage these platforms for their entrepreneurial endeavors.
Mr. Andoh emphasized the accessibility of these resources through smartphones and promoted the safety of transactions through the MoMo app. He also highlighted Ayoba App’s feature allowing users to chat, watch videos, and receive updates for free, even without data.
Addressing concerns about MoMo fraud, Mr. Andoh cautioned students against entertaining calls from sources other than the official MTN contact number, 0243300000.
Mr. Albert Prempeh Kusi, Executive Director of LEC Group, reiterated the commitment to youth mentorship, underscoring the belief in the potential of Africa’s youth. He noted that participants would benefit from tools, knowledge, and information to enhance their lives.
