A day’s training programme has been held for media practitioners in the northern zone.
The programme was aimed at equipping media practitioners with foundational knowledge about nuclear energy, including small modular rectors (SMRs), to enhance their capacity for accurate, responsible and informed reporting on Ghana’s nuclear power programme and the work of the regulator.

The NRA is collaborating with the following institutions on this project through some representatives: US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, University of Ghana, Arte and Communications, Ghana Statistical Service, GJA and NRA Media Corps.
The participants were drawn from the Ashanti, Bono East, Oti , Savannah, Northern, Upper East, Upper West and the Northern regions.
The expected outcome of the workshop is to raise awareness amongst media practitioners on how to regulate the various types of nuclear technologies for electricity generation, including SMRs, to leverage the media for nuclear regulatory communications and awareness creation, as well as to build trust.
The Director of the Radiological & Non-Ionizing Installation at the NRA, Prof. Augustine Faanu, called on the support of the media practitioners to partner with the Authority and all relevant stakeholders to help achieve their objectives.
According to him, the doors of the Authority are widely opened for information as part of its commitment to involve all stakeholders and the populace in the nuclear energy installation plans.
He said the theme for the training workshop reflected the commitment of the NRA to strengthen collaboration with journalists in education and informing the society of nuclear energy.
Prof. Faanu underscored the need for accurate, timely and responsible communication since it is critical, especially in the nuclear sector, where public trust and understanding are essential.
“It is important that the regulator clarifies misconceptions and builds a stronger partnership with the media to enhance understanding,” he added.
Dr. Emmanuel Amponsah-Amoako, Director Nuclear Installation Directorate at NRA, in his presentation entitled: ““THE ROLE OF THE NUCLEAR REGULATOR”, stated unequivocally that NRA was seeking the safety of the people. He revealed that NRA was working to effectively oversee the introduction of nuclear power into Ghana’s electrical energy grid, by addressing safety, security and safeguards matters through the institution of an effective regulatory infrastructure.
Besides, the Authority also seeks to inform and involve the public adequately in the oversight of the nuclear installations and looks forward to working with the media to support this endeavour.
Dr. Amoako added, ”NRA appreciates the media participation and stands ready to provide clear, concise and transparent interaction with the public while we embark on this journey of nuclear power together.”
According to him, looking at the current energy situation in the country, nuclear is the best option for reliable and sustainable energy provision for Ghana; hence, all hands must be on deck.
He explained that apart form the installation stage which is costly, it is the cheapest in the world.
Dr. Kelle Barfield of FIRST Programme made a presentation on “Nuclear Energy:Building the Infratucture”.
A media consultant, Mr. Michael Mawugbe, made a presentation on the topic: “Writing impactful nuclear regulatory stories”.
The newly elected Ashanti Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Chairman, who is with Luv/Joy news, Mr. Kofi Adu Domfeh, also spoke on the topic: “Reporting Science Technology Innovations (ST&I) as… Journalists”.
Former Education Minister and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has pledged to run a clean and respectful campaign as he seeks to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2026 general elections.
Dr. Adutwum made the commitment on Thursday, August 28, after filing his nomination forms at the party’s headquarters in Accra to contest the NPP flagbearership race.
He emphasised that his campaign would be grounded in ideas and policies rather than personal attacks.
Dr.Osei Yaw Adutwum
“We will shape the foundation of our party and the nation. I come to this process with humility. I am going to run a very clean campaign, one that will talk about what I have done and what I will do for my party and for my nation. A campaign without acrimony, without insults, and full of respect. That is what my campaign will be about,” he said.
Dr. Adutwum joins other prominent contenders who have filed to contest in the party’s primaries, including former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, and Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong.
The NPP’s flagbearer election, slated for January 31, 2026, is expected to be fiercely contested as the party seeks a leader capable of uniting its base and positioning it strongly for the next general election.
The race has, however, recorded its first setback with the withdrawal of Francis Addai-Nimoh. He cited “unhealthy monetisation,” internal bias, and poor timing as reasons for pulling out, raising concerns about fairness in the contest.By:Charles Owusu Kumi
New Patriotic Party flagbearer hopeful and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called for unity among fellow aspirants in the presidential primaries, urging them to focus on the real political opponent, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), instead of attacking one another.

Speaking after filing his nomination in Accra on Thursday, August 28, the former Vice President questioned the strategic value of internal rivalry, suggesting that Ghana and the NPP would benefit more if party aspirants concentrated on demonstrating leadership by constructively holding the current government to account and articulating a clear vision for the country.
“For the various candidates contesting the flagbearership, I ask, won’t Ghana and the NPP be better off if, instead of focusing your guns on Bawumia, you focused on holding the government accountable to show that you can lead the NPP in holding the NDC accountable?” he asked.
Dr. Bawumia stressed that the party should not waste energy fighting itself. “Our true opponent is not within. Our true opponent is out there. We need unity to win,” he stated.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful campaigning and party cohesion, saying, “I promise you, just as you have known me to be, I won’t do anything to bring division or conflict within the party. If there were anyone to create problems within the NPP, it would not be Bawumia.”
The former Vice President further outlined his vision, emphasising a focus on economic transformation. “My vision is to expand the Ghanaian economy through rich ideas that provide incentives and practical measures,” he said.Source:Abigail Arthur
There is a recipe for chaos when a leader is surrounded by people with Entrenchment Theory.
The Entrenchment Theory involves:
1. Individuals or groups within the political establishment who consolidate their powers and authority to resist outside influence even at the expense of the overall party or public good.
Political actors who make themselves indispensable in order to maintain their positions and personal interests.
Political Actors who adopt strategies that undermine their competitors, and make it difficult as well as costly to remove them even if they become less effective, recording zeros at polling stations, and obtaining zero parliamentary seats in some regions.
Political Actors who act in their own self-interest, aiming to preserve their positions, preserve their status, and preserve their authority at the detriment of the collective interests of the Party.
Razak Kojo Opoku (PhD)
Political Actors who create artificial barriers to change or replacement, aims at safeguarding their selfish interests at the detriment of collective interests.
However, it is time for the Change of “Entrenchment Political Actors” within the New Patriotic Party(NPP). The Party cannot continue to suffer under 38.2 degree Celsius, this is a high temperature or fever.
