In an interview with the media, Okumkom who is a well -known businessman pointed out that he had consistently contributed his quota to the well-being of the people in the area and not only to NPP members.
“I’m very confident that the delegates of Ahafo Ano South West constituency will vote for me massively, come 27th January 2024, as the next NPP parliamentary candidate to retain the seat,” he said.
Some scenes from the event
He added, “I hope my support to all manner of people, developmental projects … support to brilliant, needy students, road construction in “no-go areas” or deplorable roads, among other interventions over the years, will pay off to ensure massive victory for all of us.”
According to him, when given the nod, he would lobby for improvement in education, healthcare, road infrastructure and agriculture.
He lamented that the district lacks a major hospital, and he intends to lobby for improvement in healthcare in the district.
Concerning his contribution to the party, he mentioned that the
Mpaseaso-Nyamekye community, which is a well-known NDC-dominated area, is gradually falling to NPP after he had constructed the bad road network in the area.
He said the people, including those in other communities, had decided to support the ruling party due to his personal contribution to complement the developmental agenda of the government.
He added that the Wioso community drainage challenge had been fixed; he has also helped built a new office complex for NPP at
Mankraso.
On education, he said he had developed a programme to support brilliant, needy students.
This year alone, he has sponsored over 90 brilliant, needy students in various tertiary institutions.
Also, he has supplied much furniture to schools in the Kunsu community, his home town, including the construction of two boreholes and many other infrastructural projects.
A cross-section of delegates, who spoke to the media, heaped praises on Mr. Elvis Dapaah. To them, he is the Messiah for the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency, for which reason they urged their colleague delegates to endorse him overwhelmingly, come 27th January 2024, to lead the party to victory.
According to them, Okumkom has proven beyond doubt that he has the development of the people of the constituency at heart and needs to be given the mandate to represent them in Parliament in 2025.
The residents of the area, who joined Okumkom to file his nomination, declared that “no Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah no vote in the 2024 polls.”
They, therefore, appealed to the delegates to vote massively for him.

Tuesday, 19th December 2023 was the date set for Assembly Member elections in Ghana. Unfortunately, not all Electoral Areas could hold theirs on the said date. The remaining ones held theirs on 21st December 2023.
A research conducted by an independent body, shows NPP affiliated aspirants won majority seats in the just ended Assembly Member elections in Ghana. This, goes on to once again, affirm the confidence Ghanaians still have in the NPP. It sends a clear signal that the NPP remains the party with higher chances of winning the 2024 general elections.
Francis Adomako aka Francois, Ashanti regional NPP Organizer
As the Regional Organizer of the ruling party in its stronghold, I would like to congratulate all NPP affiliated aspirants who won and wish them a successful tenure in office. The party shall always assist you in diverse ways to make your tenure a success. And to the NPP affiliated aspirants who couldn’t make it,
I wish you success in the days ahead and will encourage you not to give up in your political endeavor.
I plead with all, who emerged victorious and those who couldn’t, to continue supporting the party and help the NPP Government become successful in our various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies. Thank You.
The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu wants the Electoral Commission (EC) to stick to the 5 pm end of polls schedule during general elections in order not to disenfranchise eligible voters.
The EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa while addressing participants at an inter-party dialogue and stock-taking conference organised by the National Peace Council in Accra last Thursday emphasised that the adjustment of the closing time for polls from 5 pm to 3 pm aims to facilitate the transparent and orderly collation of votes by electoral officers in broad daylight.
But the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu reacting to the proposal by the EC while debating the 2024 budget approval for the Electoral Commission, said the 5 pm schedule must be maintained.
Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu
“The attempt to reduce voting time from 5 pm to 3 pm again we should interrogate it. I believe it is too early for the EC to do it. [On Tuesday] when I went to vote, the materials had not been assembled yet even though I got there at 8:15, I had to stay until 9:20 to start voting, already two hours wasted.
“We didn’t have to bring the conclusion from 5 pm to 3 pm. Then the voters would have lost about four hours…So let’s all stick to the 5 pm of voting,” he said.
The Member of Parliament for Buem, Kofi Adams on his part said the failure of the EC to heed expert and stakeholder advice is to blame for the challenges experienced in the District Level Elections.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, on Thursday, 21st December 2023, joined the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong, Mr. Kennedy Kwasi Kankam, and Nananom to officially commission 25 projects which had been completed.
The 25 projects commissioned were over 45 physical developmental projects initiated by the Asokore Mampong Assembly and funded by the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), GetFund, internally generated funds, among other sources.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, the MCE and Nananom, after the exhibition of the various projects, jointly cut the tape to commission a new district assembly block and an ultra-modern fire service station, both at Asokore Mampong, to symbolise the commissioning of 23 other completed projects.

The Minister was excited that the MCE, in his welcome address, acknowledged the fact that some of the projects completed were initiated by his predecessors.
He said looking at the number of projects listed by the MCE and his team, it clearly showed that they had done well and deserved commendation.
Besides, he acknowledged the peace, unity and the good working relationship between the MCE, Nananom, religious leaders, among other stakeholders; he encouraged them to continue to live in peace in order to push for more projects for their people.
The Ashanti Regional Minister said to help publicise the good works of the Akufo-Addo administration, his outfit had decided to embark on a monthly showcase of achievements sector by sector.
He encouraged all metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) in the region to do same in order to account to their people to know what the government has done within their area since 2017 to date.
He said it is very sad that some people want to create a wrong impression that the government has not done much, adding that despite the economic hardship as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, developmental projects are still going on across the country.
In his welcome address, the MCE, Mr. Kennedy Kwasi Kankam, enumerated various projects undertaken by the Assembly.
The MCE, who is also the former Member of Parliament (MP)
for the Nhyiaeso Constituency in the Ashanti Region, commended his staff, assembly members, religious leaders, Nananom, Zongo chiefs, leaders of political parties, among other stakeholders, for their massive support.
“I’m most grateful for your unflinching support for me and the Assembly and l encourage you to continue to support us to do more for the good people of Asokore Mampong,” he said.
The Ashanti Regional Fire Service Commander, Mr. Henry Giwah, heaped praises on the government, especially the MCE for Asokore Mampong, for the construction of an ultra-modern fire service station which was part of the commissioned projects.
He, therefore, urged other metropolitan, municipal
and district chief executives (MMDCEs) to emulate Mr. Kankam’s good example.
The representative of Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah, Asokore Mamponghene, who is also Otumfuo’s Nifahene, Nana Amoah Yeboah II, expressed their appreciation to the government and the MCE for the massive projects.
Nana Amoah Yeboah II who is also Asokore Mampong Gyasihene, who was part of the stakeholders who toured the projects sites ahead of the commissioning, said they were happy about the progress of work at the ongoing ‘Agenda 111’ hospital project which is going to serve as the first municipal hospital for them.
He appealed to the government to make funds available to the contractors to complete the project as scheduled.
“We’re very grateful to the government for the projects done so far but we’re appealing to the Regional Minister and the MCE to follow up to ensure that the 24th November 2024 the contractors have promised to hand over the ‘Agenda 111’ hospital project is fulfilled,” he added.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Kennedy Kwasi Kankam, has showcased some unprecedented developmental projects for the municipality undertaken by the Akufo-Addo administration over the past seven years.
Various stakeholders, including chiefs, imams, representatives of political parties, among others, were surprised at the massive projects done by the government, especially projects undertaken by Mr. Kankam in just two years in office as MCE.
Some scenes from the tour
This came to light on Tuesday, 19th December 2023, when Mr. Kankam embarked on projects tour with the stakeholders ahead of the official inauguration of the projects on Thursday, 21st December 2023 in front of the new Assembly block at Asokore Mampong, the municipal capital.
The MCE said in order to save cost, they decided to use the new Assembly block and fire service station to symbolise about 45 physical projects, most of which had been completed across the municipality.
The Asokore Mampong MCE explained that it was, therefore, prudent to take stakeholders on a tour to the various project sites for them to have first-hand information in addition to the exhibition of the projects at the inauguration ceremony.
Mr.Kankam, acknowledged that some of the projects completed were initiated by his predecessors.
During the tour, the project sites team managed to observe a new administration block at Asokore Mampong, construction of a fire service station at Asokore Mampong, old Assembly block which has been painted, and construction of Technical and Vocational Training Centre (phase 2) at Asokore Mampong.
Others are security post at the entrance of the new Assembly block, construction of 1 No.6 unit classroom block (ground floor) at Sakafia SHS, Sawaba,
construction of 3 No.2 bedroom semi-detached bungalow for staff of the Assembly, construction of 310m block fence wall with security post at MCE’s bungalow and construction of Municipal Co-ordinating Director’s bungalow at Asokore Mampong.
Some of the projects are ongoing Kayaye project at Akwatialine, ongoing ‘Agenda 111’ hospital projects at Adenyase near Kumasi International Airport, water extension at Parkoso Old Town, ongoing Bombay shops construction at Akwatialine and construction of mechanised borehole with overhead tank in10 communities.
The rest of the projects are construction of gender-friendly 8 seater toilet with mechanised borehole at Asokore Mampong Market and Asokore Mampong R/C primary school as well as Nurul Ameen Basic School, new National Health Insurance (NHIS) office at Asawasi near the Central Mosque, GKMA institutional toilet projects to over 20 schools and health facilities within the municipality and dual desk distribution to basic schools in the Asokore Mampong Municipal.
The MCE revealed that as a result of the completion for nine apartments for the staff of the Assembly, they had saved two hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢200,000) the Assembly was spending annually to rent accommodation for the staff.
The MCE was, therefore, grateful to Nananom, the clergy, imams, the staff of the Assembly, among other stakeholders, for their support.
The MCE was also excited about the progress of work at the ongoing ‘Agenda 111’ hospital project. According to the project manager, the project will be handed over by November 2024. Also, work on a 100- bed hostel facility for Kayayes was going on steadily.
A number of chiefs and political parties representatives, who spoke to the media after the tour, commended the MCE and the Akufo-Addo administration for the massive projects and urged them to publicise their achievements to expose wrong perception that the government has not done much.
They admitted that they were excited about the developmental projects that had been done in the municipality.
They, therefore, pledged their unflinching support to him to help him do more for the area.
A research study conducted to investigate the performance of the two main political parties, New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress, in the District Assembly Elections which were held across the country on the Tuesday, 19th December, 2023 and Thursday, 21st December, 2023, concludes with the results from the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the Ashanti Region, indicating the performances of the two parties, respectively.
Although it is not partisan, the aspirants are usually one way or the other supported by the various political parties that they are affiliated to. Some aspirants even hold political positions at the electoral area, branch, polling station and ward levels, depending on the particular party he or she belongs to. Our research team therefore did not find it difficult identifying the political leanings of these aspirants, particularly when some of them boldly design their posters with the colors of the party they belong to.
It must be established that, a political affiliation of a candidate undoubtedly impacted their likelihood of winning in the contest or otherwise. It is also common knowledge that these political parties, through both covert and overt actions, influence the chances of a candidate.
The readiness of the two political parties to win the General Elections is therefore tested in these local elections. Same can be argued in the case of their respective popularity and approval ratings among the voting populace.
Nine Hundred and Twenty One (921) candidates who identify with the NPP won their respective electoral areas across the region.
This represents 85% of the total One Thousand and Eighty Five (1085) candidates. The opposition NDC through the pro-NDC candidates managed to secure a paltry 157, representing 14%, with the non-affiliated or independent candidates recording 9, representing 1% of the total candidates who won.
Attached is the data depicting how both parties performed in all the forty three (43) metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the Ashanti Region.
