National Treasurer of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Dr. Charles Dwamena has implored all special delegates of the party to ensure they have fully paid their dues before participating in the Special Delegates Conference on Saturday, August 26.
He cautioned that any delegate who fails to pay his or her dues will be denied the right to vote.
Dr. Charles Dwamena made this known during an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo”.
“Pay your dues so that when the time comes, you won’t face any embarrassing situation,” he warned.
He revealed the dues is in packages from bronze to gold and each delegate is expected to pay at least 2 cedis a month, therefore any person who has arrears is to defray it before he or she makes his or her way to the Special Delegates Conference.
The NPP Special Delegates Conference is aimed at reducing the number of candidates vying for the position of flagbearer from ten to five.
Over 900 delegates are expected to vote during this special election.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has stated that he, along with NPP Members of Parliament (MPs) in the region, chiefs, and some dignitaries, have committed to providing support to delegates participating in the upcoming NPP primaries.
The pledge, according to Wontumi is a token of appreciation for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s role in driving the development of the Ashanti Region.
Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV on August 18, 2023, he explained that though the said gesture is not considered a campaign effort, it aims to underscore the party’s gratitude for Dr. Bawumia’s contributions to the region’s progress.
He stated “The Ashanti region needs development, roads, and other things…Ashantis need beautiful things and as Ashantis, whenever you do something worthy of praise, we give thanks, so because of that Ashanti MPs and myself as the regional chairman, all of us have met among other dignitaries including chiefs to cater to the needs of delegates during the election for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”
Wontumi added: “So, when it is time for the election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, we don’t need his water or anything, we will on our own provide water, food, transport, and everything to those that are coming to vote to honor him (Bawumia) as a thank you gift. He shouldn’t bring anything here, if he has something he should take it to a different region, for this place we will take care of it.
“I am speaking on behalf of all the MPs, Honorable Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, and all the rest of the MPs because we have decided to bear all such costs.”
He noted that the Ashanti region, as a bastion of the NPP, remains a priority for development, and the support being offered symbolizes the region’s acknowledgment of Vice President Bawumia’s dedication and vision for the region.
Dr Bawumia will contest for the flagbearership slot along with nine other contenders including former trade minister Alan Kyerematen and Kennedy Agyapong, who are seen as his main challengers.
The NPP will slash the 10 candidates, who passed the vetting stage, down to five in a preliminary vote (set for August) before the main contest is held in November 2023 to elect a successor to president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as leader of the party.
The political landscape in Ghana is heating ahead of the 2024 elections. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are gearing up for a fierce battle among other parties.
The NPP, currently in power, is determined to defy the traditional eight-year cycle by securing victory once again. The party, which clinched the presidency in 2016 and retained it in 2020, is setting its sights on securing another term in the upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is eyeing a comeback. The party, which lost power to the NPP in the previous election, is banking on the leadership of former President John Mahama to spearhead its resurgence. Source:Ghanaweb.com

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Jean Mensa has announced that the 2023 Voters’ Registration Exercise will commence on Tuesday, 12th September, 2023 to Monday, 2nd October 2023.
The Registration Exercise will afford Ghanaians who have attained the voting age of 18 years since the last registration in 2020 and others who are more than 18 years but for various reasons could not register during the 2020 registration the opportunity to do so.
Pursuant to Regulation 2 (1) of the Public Elections (Registration of Voters) Regulations, 2016 (C.I.91), as amended, the Electoral Commission would embark on a Voters Registration Exercise in all the 268 District Offices of the Commission.
The Registration Exercise will commence on Tuesday, 12th September, 2023 to Monday 2nd October 2023. It will be between the hours of 8am and 5pm each day including Saturdays and Sundays.
The Registration Exercise will take place in all the 268 District Offices of the Commission including the Guan District. In other words, each District office will serve as a Registration Centre.
Mrs. Jean Mensa
The Commission’s Staff at the District i.e., District Electoral Officers, Assistant District Electoral Officers and their Secretaries will serve as the Registration Officials.
The Commission finds it unfortunate that its efforts to strengthen the credibility and integrity of our Voters’ Roll and by extension our elections by the introduction of this draft C.I. has not received the support of Parliament.
Members of Parliament were of the view that NIA should fully resume its Registration Exercise nationwide before the C.I. could be considered.
Sadly, the NIA has not fully commenced its operations nationwide due to a lack of resources.
This leaves us with no option than to rely on the current C.I. with its inherent challenges to conduct the Voters’ Registration Exercise until such time that NIA would become fully operational.
Qualification And Requirements For Registration:
Requirements for the Registration Exercise remain the same as what pertains in the Public Elections (Registration of Voters) Regulations, 2016 (C.I.91), (1) as amended.
A person qualifies to register to vote if he/she
• Is a citizen of Ghana
• Is 18 years of age or above
• Is of sound mind
• Is resident or ordinarily resident in an electoral area and
• Has not already registered as a voter; or
• Is not prohibited by any law in force from registering to vote
Proof Of Eligibility/Evidence of Identification
In addition to the above, all applicants are required to show proof of eligibility by tendering any of the following identification documents.
• A National Identification Card (Ghana Card)
• Ghana Passport
Applicants who do not have any of the identification documents listed above, are required to present two people who are already registered voters to vouch for their citizenship and age.
Per law, a guarantor can guarantee for up to ten (10) eligible applicants.
It is a criminal offence to guarantee for more than ten (10) applicants. As such persons who guarantee for more than ten (10) applicants will beprosecuted. It is also a criminal offence for a guarantor to guarantee for non-citizens or minors. The Commission will identify such persons and bring them up for prosecution.
We call on our media partners to assist us to educate the citizenry on this provision.

Vice President for the Confederation for the Development of Poultry in Africa (CADA), Mr. John Bewuah Edusei has reiterated his call for Ghana to consider domesticating agricultural products.
He says his numerous calls, which have mainly fallen on deaf ears has now become even more urgent and very important if the nation’s authorities would prevent a looming danger in coming years.
The CADA Vice President who has been a respectable voice when it comes to poultry especially, and agriculture as a whole not only in Ghana but the African sub region, predicted earlier this year that with the consequences of the Russia/Ukraine war on the country, Ghana would face harsher challenges should same occur to her neighbors.
This is why, he suggested, that Ghanaian leaders should develop the political will to stop relying so much on importing agricultural products and begin domesticating.
Mr.John Bewuah Edusei
Mali /Niger wars
Mr. Bewuah Adusei lamented that his fears of wars within Africa negatively impacting Ghana’s wholly dependent economy is now being witnessed.
He said the coup d’tats in Mali and Niger are already harshly influencing Ghana.
“Few weeks after my humble Appeal and Advice, Mali and Niger have had coup d’etats which is already influencing our Nation negatively. Intra boarder Businesses between Ghana and Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger have almost crumbled”. He noted.
He continued that “just yesterday, the news was that about a 100 or more Articulated Trucks are stranded at the borders, with loads of Onions etc and can not drive-in to Ghana. As a result, Prices of Onions are sky rocketing and who knows if there is going yo be shortages”.
…As is if that is not enough Tomatoes and Cattle, Sheep and Goats are all expected to follow, high pricing”. Mr. Bewuah Adusei pointed.
Right time
The CADA Vice President noted that the nation seemed to be planning towards failure with its deja vu attitude towards domestication.
“So who is in charge here ? Are we failing to plan so as to plan our own failures ? When do we want take to drastic measures that will help us to begin our planning towards Domesticating our country?”
“The time is now to plan to at least copy what our sister countries are doing, if we can not invent our own methods of cropping enough ONIONS AND TOMATOES”. He said.
Appeal
He appealed to Ghanaian authorities to create ‘many jobs in the field of agriculture’.
“The era of importing Food must come to an end at some point, given a very strategic plan, Short term and Long trem. Not just that, but creating the enabling environment with great attractions to the Youth”. He appealed.
