President John Dramani Mahama, has hinted that Ghana may soon transition from appointing Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to electing them, as part of a broader constitutional reform agenda aimed at deepening local democracy and accountability.
Addressing MMDCEs at an orientation and training workshop in Accra on Wednesday, 18th June, President Mahama suggested that the current appointees could be the last under the existing system.
“You may be the last batch of MMDCEs to be appointed,” he stated
“The National Review Committee is travelling around the country and will present its recommendations in August this year. One of the major items that has come up is the election of MMDCEs.
There is no doubt that Ghanaians want the MMDCEs elected. Those who succeed you might have to go through elections.”
President John Dramani Mahama
The President said public sentiment strongly supports the idea of elected MMDCEs, a key issue that has featured prominently during the Constitution Review Committee’s national consultations.
President Mahama urged the current MMDCEs to embrace collaboration with local stakeholders to enhance governance and community development.
“I therefore urge you to work with the chiefs, the religious bodies, and civil society in your districts to restore the social contract with our people,” he said. “The legitimacy and authority of the state must not only be rooted in law, but must also be felt through the lived experience of our citizens.”
His remarks come as part of a renewed push to strengthen democratic governance at the local level and make public officeholders more accountable to their constituents.Source: Ernest K. Arhinful
A Kunasi-based Pastor, Kwaku Obeng aka Apostle John, has revealed that the current Chief of Staff,Mr Julius Debrah will win the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearership race for 2028.
According to him,, per his revelations, Mr. Julius Debrah, the current Chief of Staff, who is the favourite of President Mahama to succeed him, will be selected as the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),.
Pastor Kwaku Obeng aka Apostle John President John Mahama & Julius Debrah
He, was quick to explain however, that Mr.Alan Kyerematen of Movement for Change (MFC) is the chosen one by God to succeed President Mahama,as the first Ghana’s independent President .
Besides, Apostle John made additional revelations about what is expected to happen in the political space ahead of the 2028 polls.
Chief Julius Debrah
He said Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the incumbent NDC National Chairman, should forget about any presidential ambition because God has not chosen him, including Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and others.
He the revelation on Monday,16th June,2025, at the Kumasi jubilee park.
Apostle John, who is a member of the Spoken Word Ministry, claimed that God had chosen Mr. Alan Kyeremanten to be the next President of Ghana and nothing would change that.
He said, “This revelation was made known to me through a vision in which Jesus Christ told me that Alan Kyeremanten has been chosen to become an independent president from 2028 to 2032.”
“Jesus Christ told me that because the leaders of political parties seek their personal and party interests at the expense of the well-being of Ghanaians, no political party will be given an opportunity to rule again until after Alan has ruled Ghana for eight years to ensure Ghana’s prosperity,” he added.
He continued, “Both the NPP and other political parties will all form an alliance with Alan. After that, he (Alan) needs to choose Hon. Osei Kyei- Mensah-Bonsu as his running mate and, together, they will lead Ghana for eight years.”
He said the reason God has chosen Alan is that he is “an hybrid of a politician and a technocrat,” who has been chosen by God to help solve the high unemployment rate among the Ghanaian youth.
According to him, Mr. Alan Kyeremanten plans to achieve this by investing in NVTI and other technical institutions, as well as establishing industries. “Under Alan’s administration, Ghana will discover more hidden gold,” he claimed.

Osei Kofi Acquah the former National Youth organizer of the CPP writes
In 2012 / 2013 as a deputy cordinator for the National Youth league working committee put up by comrade Kadri, we and James Tetteh the former Western Regional Youth Organizer who was the National Cordinator for the CPP working committee, we had a successful meeting in Temale after meeting some selected constituency Youth Organizers and all Regional Youth Organizers and we came with a plan that proposed that the CPP National Youth League should have its own National Delegates Congress where all constituency Youth Organizers, Executives of the CPP Tertiary Chapters.
Regional Youth Organizers and all members of the National Youth League will be delegates to elect a National Youth organizer, his deputies and other portfolios.
We went ahead to propose that same be done for the CPP women’s wing too.
Carefully and strategically planned and drafted and Successful done, this proposal was discouraged at Central Committee where the Samia administration felt threatened by the plan.
Later on someone in Leadership leaked the plan to the NDC, and they did not hesitate in rolling out this strategy.
With a semi autonomous leverage, the NDC Youth wing rebranded and embarked on more Youthful programs which attracted more Ghanaian Youth into their fold.
Fast forward, in the year 2023 I myself again and the former National Organizer Comrade Moses Yirimambo Ambing went on a retreat to bring out a strategy on how to raise money for a proper reorganization of the CPP whiles at the same time, making sure there is visibility and participation of party activities by senior members who were refusing to spend money and resources on the party because they were waiting to lead the party first.
We concluded that the best way to do that was to introduce the UP-BOTTOM OR UP-DOWN Approach which simply meant that we should elect our flagbearer before electing other executives such as National, To Regional, Constituency, Electoral Area and Branch executives.
We had to spend a lot of time, energy and resources convincing members of the CPP’s Central Committee and even members of NEC to understand where we were coming from.
The strategy that was going to be of benefit to my Dear CPP, will not be shared since the idea and its strategic benefit is still relevant and this is a public document.
Fast forward, myself and the National Organizer were able to push the idea to be accepted at Central Committee after a long and carefully explained presentation at Central Committee meeting.
The idea was also shared with members of the National Executive Council which is NEC in Kumasi.
However there was a sharp twist of even when one aspirant who was waffled by the idea felt threatened, hid behind the Council of Elders of the Party to intervene and terminate the plan.
We protested and pointed that the council does not have the power to do so.
We were hit with a court case! After alot of in and out court counter sues which wasted TIME which was one essential reason for the proposal, we went into “battle too late and too exhausted”
Yesterday, the biggest Opposition party, the NPP has adopted our plan of UP-BOTTOM approach as their strategy to radically reorganize their party.
I am sitting here thinking, Is excessive Tolerance in the name of Democracy good to push strategies through when it comes to Internal party Reorganizational strategy?
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially scheduled its presidential primaries for Saturday, 31st January 2026.
The decision was taken at a crucial meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held on Tuesday, 17th June 2025.
This announcement by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, sets the stage for a decisive contest to elect the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
“The Committee also spoke about the time for our presidential primaries. And again, the Committee agrees that that decision does not warrant amendment of our Constitution. And the National Council today, also made the decision that the date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026. That will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries.
With growing anticipation within the party’s rank and file, the primary is expected to attract significant interest from both longstanding members and new contenders seeking to lead the NPP into the next electoral cycle.
Party officials have indicated that nomination guidelines, timelines for campaign activities, and the code of conduct for aspirants will be released in the coming weeks.
The NEC has assured party members of a transparent and credible process that upholds the democratic values of the NPP.
The Progressive Alliance of Ghana (PAG) has expressed serious concern over the recently announced license extension agreement between the Government of Ghana and oil multinationals Tullow Oil and Kosmos Energy.
The agreement, first reported by Upstream Online, has been described by PAG as a “very bad deal for the country”, which must be reversed immediately in the interest of national sovereignty, economic justice, and transparency.
The deal extends the licenses for the Jubilee and TEN oil fields until 2040 and was signed under a Memorandum of Understanding involving the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), PetroSA, and Explorco. It also includes the drilling of up to 20 new wells and an estimated \$2 billion in investment — but at what long-term cost to the Ghanaian people?
Who truly benefits from this deal?
PAG believes this extension locks Ghana into a fiscal arrangement that disproportionately benefits foreign partners, undermines local value retention, and limits future renegotiation opportunities. The agreement also reportedly includes a gas pricing formula that reduces the cost of associated gas and imposes rigid gas production targets — key concessions made without broad national consultation or parliamentary scrutiny.
Even more troubling is the timing of the deal — rushed and concluded under the radar — at a time when Ghana is grappling with economic hardship and a growing demand for resource sovereignty.
The Progressive Alliance of Ghana makes the following key points:
The deal lacks transparency. The process was shrouded in secrecy, with no national debate or open parliamentary discussion. The implications of this deal are generational and deserve full public engagement.
Ghana stands to lose long-term revenue. By locking in fiscal terms and extending the licenses deep into the future, the government is surrendering future bargaining power and economic value that could have been secured on more favourable terms.
Parliament must reject the extension. PAG urges the Parliament of Ghana to reject any proposed development plan or legislative process that seeks to validate this agreement. Ghanaians deserve better terms and full accountability.
A future PAG-led government will review the deal. We are committed to reversing this agreement and ensuring that all extractive contracts undergo a strict national interest test. Ghana’s oil wealth belongs to its people — not to foreign multinationals and their local enablers.
PAG is sounding the alarm and calls on civil society, the media, and all patriotic citizens to demand accountability. This is more than just an economic matter — it is a question of sovereignty and the future stewardship of Ghana’s natural resources.

Nana Afua Serwaa Adusei, a Lead for Shecanic Academy, has urged parents to equip their children with survival skills to help them move on in life without much difficulty.
She pointed out that skills such as cooking, swimming, a second language, driving, and fixing car tyres, among other skills, were crucial for the development of every individual youth, irrespective of gender.
Dennis Gawuga, Communications Manager , CFAO (left) explaining something to the participants during the workshop
Nana Afua Serwaa Adusei was speaking at a one-day workshop organised for fathers to teach their children how to jumpstart a battery and how to change car tyres in Accra as part of activities marking this year’s Father’s Day.
The workshop, which was the 2nd second edition of the beginner’s auto workshop, was dubbed “Daddy Taught me”
Shecanic Academy is a community of women professionals in diverse professions, students and apprentices in male-dominated fields such as barbers, security personnel, mechanics, engineers, pilots, painters and welders among others.
Nana Afua Serwaa Adusei, of Shecanic Academy
Focus
Among the issues being promoted by Shecanic Academy are supporting the youth to venture into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as well as Technical and Vocational Education and (TVET) ventures to make them economically empowered wherever they may find themselves in the world or work after school or training.
Some scenes from the ceremony
The Lead indicated that apart from the education and training at school and other training institutions, survival skills were very critical in the proper upbringing of every youth so they could have a meaningful life when they wean off from their parents.
She recounted how car knowledge used to be for a privileged or selected few but has now become a survival skill.
Shecanic used the occasion to praise all fathers for not just raising their children but also going the extra mile to equip them with special skills that make them stand tall among their peers wherever they find themselves.
Again, she recounted how people have become vulnerable because they did not know certain basics like how to jumpstart batteries, how to check oils or even how to change their vehicle tyres on the highway, exposing them to different kinds of dangers.
Mr Kwabena Busia of Klick Auto Engineering Ltd reminded parents to take a keen interest in the proper upbringing and training of their children.
He appealed to vehicle users to desist from using water and rather use coolant as a way of protecting their vehicles.
Commendation
He commended Shecanic Academy for the programme, which would go a long way to enhance the productivity and safety of many people, especially those who drive and their families.
Mr Jude Attrams – Sales supervisor of tyres at CFAO) educated parents about the proper selection as well as the configurations of tyres.
He appealed to various institutions to make it a point of helping in the promotion of such training to their staff and the public to improve the safety and lives of people.
Supporting Partners
On hand were Engineers and other professionals from Klick Auto Engineering Ltd, CFAO and other institutions who took the 80 participants through various skills acquisition training sessions interspersed with practicals to test their understanding of what they had studied.
The other partners are Electroland Ghana Limited, which gave NASCO appliances to some participants, First Bank Ghana opened an account for all the children, Verna water made sure participants were hydrated, Star oil provided fuel vouchers for all participants, while CFAO also provided mobility support to the participants.
Apart from the training, the event was also used as a socialising or bonding avenue for children, their fathers and mothers, as well as other families.
It should be noted that many of the skills people acquire from their parents remain with them and are always used to promote the development of their lives.
Background
Shecanic Academy is a growing community of about 15 women and has the objective of having a community of women for emotional support and encouragement, positive representation for students who may be in doubt about their career choice in male-dominated fields and also to advocate for them.
The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) Dr. Johnson Asiama has assured that the country has built the needed buffers to withstand external threats to the economy, particularly from the Iran Israel war in the Middle East.
According to Dr. Asiama, “Ghana’s foreign reserve position, inflation trajectory, and fiscal adjustment efforts provide a solid cushion for the country now”.
He disclosed this at the Ghana Association of Banks Industry Thought Leadership programme themed, “Banking the Last Mile: An Industry-Led Strategy for Accelerating Digital Finance”
Dr. Johnson Asiama
Monitoring the situation
Dr. Asiama said the Bank of Ghana is closely monitoring the situation and its potential impact.
“I wish to assure the public that Ghana’s macroeconomic buffers are stronger today than they have been in recent years”, he reiterated.
He also announced that Ghana is actively engaging the country’s international partners to remain responsive to any external shocks.
He added that “the Bank stands ready to take prudent and pre-emptive measures to preserve Ghana’s Economic Stability and protect the progress that made”.
Middle East tension and Ghana
The Chief Executive of the Ghana Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies Dr. Riverson Oppong last week told JOYBUSINESS that oil prices could start going up from July 1, 2025 if crude oil prices on the international market continue to rise as a result of the Israel Iran war.
This could bring to an end, the consistent decline in prices of petroleum products at the pumps since February 2025.
Since June 16, prices of oil have started declining from US$78 this week to about US$74 a barrel.
President John Mahama recently directed Finance and Energy Ministers to quickly put in place measures to mitigate the expected shocks to the Ghanaian economy.
“Despite the work we have done in stabilizing the economy, Ghana is not immune from the shocks of global events,” he said.
JOYBUSINESS understand that some of the measures could be announced before the Mid-Year Budget review.
Sources close to government have told JOYBUINESS that several options are on the table.Source: Joy Business
The National Service Authority (NSA) has released PIN codes for 132,393 prospective national service personnel for the 2025/2026 service year.
The PIN codes, covering graduates from 100 accredited tertiary institutions across the country, reflect a 26% drop in submissions compared to the average of the last three years—an outcome the NSA attributes to tighter validation protocols and the elimination of inflated or bogus submissions.
In 2022/2023, for example, 144,773 graduates were declared from 275 schools. This year’s figure drops sharply to 132,393 from just 100 institutions—a 36% reduction in graduate submissions and a 63.6% reduction in contributing schools compared to that period.
The Authority said 3,597 graduates from 22 institutions have been excluded from this year’s mobilisation because those schools are not recognised by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). NSA says those graduates will only be considered once verifiable evidence of accreditation is submitted.
“All institutional accreditation data referenced in this release has been validated by GTEC,” the NSA stated, urging institutions with expired accreditation to regularise their status within 30 days to avoid complications for their graduates.
In addition to PINs for accredited institutions, another 908 PIN codes for private applicants—Ghanaian students who studied abroad, deferred, or defaulted—are pending final verification. Affected individuals are advised to contact the NSA if their PINs remain inaccessible by June 24.
Registration Process
Prospective service personnel must activate their PIN codes by paying GHS 40 at any ADB Bank branch or GHS 41 via MTN Mobile Money. Registration is to be completed at https://smarthub.nss.gov.gh between June 17 and July 1, 2025.
The 2025/2026 enrolment process features new integrity checks, including facial biometric verification against Ghana Card data and compulsory GhanaPost GPS address input for proximity-based posting.
Military Pre-Deployment Option Introduced
The NSA also announced a pilot Basic Military Training phase for selected applicants ahead of their main national service deployment. Interested graduates may opt in during registration. Final postings will be done after completion of the six-week training, ensuring no loss of placement.Source:Jonathan Adjei
