MTN Ghana Celebrates Cybersecurity Awareness Month With the theme “Living With Security”
MTN Ghana has marked this year’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month under the theme “Living with Security.” This initiative highlights MTN’s commitment to fostering a secure digital environment for all stakeholders.
In announcing the launch, MTN Ghana’s CEO, Mr. Stephen Blewett, emphasized the critical role of cybersecurity in the organization’s success, stating, “In today’s interconnected world, cybersecurity is a shared responsibility.”
To protect the digital landscape and equip staff with the knowledge and tools needed for a secure online environment, MTN Ghana continually enhances its cybersecurity efforts to safeguard its digital ecosystem.
MTN Ghana is also collaborating with the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications to foster discussions on the latest trends, threats, and best practices in cybersecurity. The partnership aims to engage stakeholders in churches, mosques, and schools on topics such as managing misinformation, digital parenting, and online safety.
Mr. Bernard Acquah, the Chief Information Officer for MTN Ghana, highlighted the importance of cybersecurity, saying, “Cybersecurity is a fundamental aspect of living in the digital age. At MTN, we are dedicated to empowering our community with knowledge and tools for online safety. Our theme, ‘Living with Security,’ reflects this commitment.” He encouraged participation in the Cybersecurity Awareness Month activities and stressed the need for proactive digital security measures to address evolving online challenges.
Over the years, MTN Ghana has commemorated the Cybersecurity Awareness Month to educate the public, encourage safe online behavior, discuss emerging threats, and foster cyber resilience.

GNPC Foundation to graduate about 2000 artisans…as part of its job creation agenda

The Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC) Foundation will soon graduate about 2,000 artisans who are currently taking their final exams at various centres across 12 regions out of the 16 regions in the country.
The GNPC Foundation Skilled Artisan Training programme is being done for free and the beneficiaries have opportunities to undertake about 22 disciplines such as make-up, tailoring, hairdressing, carpentry, fabrication, plumbing, among others.
Those who pass the exams are graduated and given start-up kits or tools by GNPC Foundation in the next few days after the exams.
The Head of Media at GNPC Foundation, Mr. Moses Antwi Benefo, said the foundation is committed to skills training, targeting the youth as part of its commitment to help reduce unemployment in the country.

He revealed that 315 out of about 2,500 people in the Ashanti region,have undergone training so far.
Mr. Benefo disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday, 22nd October 2024, on the premises of Old Oforikrom Municipal Assembly during GNPC Foundation Phase 2 Skilled Artisans Project.
The artisans took standard NVTI exams on Tuesday at the Old Municipal Assembly at Oforikrom, where successful artisans will be graduated and given start-up tools.
Mr. Benefo said, in partnership with Aseda Foundation, the skills training institute is committed to empowering the unemployed youth with the requisite skills and tools for them to become self-employed.
He revealed that the impact assessment done on about 300 graduands of the programme last year shows clearly that most of them are multiplying in their outputs.
According to him, the selection process is very open and transparent, adding that the foundation always liaises with NVTI. He, therefore, encouraged the youth to take advantage of the programme.
Also, Mr. Benefo advised the beneficiaries not to misuse their start-up tools but rather use them for their intended purposes so as to also help empower other unskilled people.
On her part, the Aseda Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Madam Diana Adjei, commended GNPC Foundation for partnering with her foundation to empower the youth with employable skills.
According to her, vocational training is the best way to reduce unemployment rate in the country. She, therefore, appealed to more organisations to come on board to help train more people.
Besides, she encouraged the unemployed and unskilled youth, especially women across the country, to take advantage of the GNPC Foundation Skilled Artisan Training programme.
MTN GHANA OBSERVES 2024 GLOBAL ETHICS DAY
MTN Ghana recently celebrated Global Ethics Day with an insightful podcast conversation centered on anti-bribery and corruption. Aligning with the global theme “Ethics Empowered” MTN Ghana’s local theme, “Heightening Anti-Bribery and Corruption Practices”, underscored its commitment to ethical business practices.
The Ethics Podcast showcased MTN’s comprehensive training and awareness programs focused on anti-bribery and corruption, emphasizing prevention and a steadfast zero-tolerance policy.
The podcast complements MTN’s ongoing training and awareness initiatives on the company’s anti-bribery and corruption policy.
Commenting on the celebration, Mr. Joseph Dogbe, Chief Risk and Compliance Officer for MTN Ghana, stated, “This year, we focused on anti-bribery and corruption, which is a critical risk area. We are committed to promoting business ethics to ensure MTN’s sustainability and growth. This celebration reaffirms MTN’s dedication to ethics and integrity while promoting a culture of transparency and accountability.”
During the event, panelists from various divisions within MTN Ghana and MobileMoney Limited discussed existing processes, systems, and technologies that support their operations in preventing bribery and corruption. They also highlighted the company’s consequence management processes, demonstrating the actions MTN would take in response to any incidents of bribery and corruption, in line with its commitment to zero tolerance for unethical behaviors.
The panelists emphasized that the values and ethical principles of MTN Ghana are not only vital for the company’s sustainability and protection of stakeholder interests but also play a crucial role in enabling MTN staff to positively influence the larger society.
Participants were encouraged to report any unethical behavior through the company’s anonymous whistleblowing channel and to seek guidance from the Ethics Office when faced with ethical dilemmas.
MTN Ghana is steadfast in its commitment to upholding ethics and integrity in business practices. In 2023, the company organized activities focused on combating harassment and discrimination, while the emphasis in 2022 was on fraud prevention

BoG holds Media Capacity workshop for Journalists on financial reporting

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has organised a two-day media training workshop on financial reporting for journalists in the Ashanti Region.
The workshop, which is being held at Veronique Heights in Kumasi from 16-19 October 2024, forms part of BoG’s efforts to ensure that the media accurately interpret and report on economic issues, monetary policy decisions and their implications.

The insightful and educative workshop touched on the following topics: Monetary Policy ~ice in Ghana; Understanding Inflation Dynamics in Ghana; Developments in Foreign Exchange Market; Macroeconomic Analysis & Significance of Macroeconomic Indicators.
The rest of the topics were: Interpreting MPC Data Pack/ Engagement on Practical Financial Reporting
Exercises; and the Concept of Next of Kin.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Bernard A. Otabil, the Director of Communications at BoG, stated emphatically that the crucial role of the media in supporting BoG’s efforts in creating understanding among the citizenry cannot be overemphasised, hence its commitment to partnering with the media for effective education.
According to him, the effectiveness of BoG would definitely improve when the public are well educated to understand the operations of BoG.
He, therefore, admonished journalists, as well as all media practitioners, to use their power responsibly.
He said the media has the power to influence the society both positively and negatively; he, therefore, urged the media to use their power positively in creating peace, unity and growth for the betterment of all.
Besides, the BoG Director of Communications used the opportunity to heap praises on the media for their continuous support. He pledged the commitment of BoG to continue to have a good working relationship with the media to help educate the public.
On his part, the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr. Kingsley E. Hope, commended the leadership of BoG for the capacity training workshop.
He entreated his colleague journalists to take key interest in understanding economic issues and the interpretation of monetary policy decisions in order to better educate their viewers, listeners and readers.
A cross-section of journalists, who spoke to this paper, described the two-day workshop as informative and an eye-opener.
They also encouraged the leadership of BoG to emphasise the training of journalists on financial reporting in order to avoid misreporting and misinformation.
