The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has asked party executives in the Western Region to choose competence and a strategic person over who is most fluent in the Queen’s language.

Popularly called Chairman Wontumi, the three-time Ashanti Regional Chairman, while speaking to executives of the party in the Western region, noted that the current situation in the party greatly requires a national chairman who represents and mirrors the very tenets, aspirations and hunger to lead the charge in reclaiming political power in 2028.Speaking to the charged crowd, he intimated that “This election (2028) is not for the books but for those who are tried and tested as grassroots working men… someone who is highly popular and ready to work and work for the needed victory for the party.

“Chairman Wontumi wants the party to judge him not on his certificate but on his competency as well as what he can do for the total growth of the party.”Don’t judge me based on my certificate but on my competency,” he added.

He said the time has come to give the party to those who can and have, over the years, shown that they have the political wisdom to work for the return of the party to power in 2028.To the Ashanti Regional Chairman, at this critical moment, where hopelessness is on the rise with lost focus and direction,

“What we can offer now to members of the party and Ghanaians in general is hope and reassurance,” insisting that “I’m built for the battle ahead,” calling on the region to support his ambition.

A visibly energetic Wontumi noted that his long years of service to the party – as a two-term constituency chairman and an unprecedented three-time Ashanti regional chairman – have prepared him adequately for the task ahead, and he assured that he was not going to compromise on anything that will reduce the attraction of the party to voters.

Giving further explanation regarding his chairmanship ambition, Wontumi told the party, “What I am passing through after our electoral defeat in 2024, in the hands of the NDC, has really emboldened me to join you and work together to make Dr Mahamudu Bawumia the next president in 2028.”He further assured,

“As a national chairman, my work is at the various constituencies. The General Secretary will take charge of the party at the Headquarters, but for me, my work is with the people to ensure we bring in every vote to the party going into 2028.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the Western Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Francis Ndede Siah, described Wontumi as a pure grassroot man and, therefore, must be given all the support.#TheWontumiProject #BuiltForTheBattleAhead
