The Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwaku Boahen, has emphatically stated that Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo will be removed from office, regardless of any legal maneuvers she undertakes.
His comments come in the wake of the Chief Justice’s suspension on April 22, 2025, by President John Dramani Mahama, following the establishment of a prima facie case against her in consultation with the Council of State. Subsequently, a five-member committee was set up under Article 146(6) of the Constitution to investigate several allegations of misconduct.

Although proceedings are being held in camera, in accordance with constitutional provisions, Justice Torkornoo has so far made four unsuccessful attempts in court to halt the process. Each of these legal challenges was dismissed by the Supreme Court.
Undeterred, Justice Torkornoo has filed a fresh judicial review application at the High Court, once again seeking to quash the ongoing impeachment process. She argues that the committee, chaired by Justice Gabriel Pwamang, has committed serious procedural violations that undermine the fairness of the inquiry.
Despite mounting pressure and calls for her resignation, the Chief Justice remains resolute. She insists that stepping down would legitimize what she describes as a “flawed, unknown, and opaque” process.
However, speaking on Peace FM’s morning show Kokrokoo, Mr. Boahen criticized her stance, comparing her situation to that of a doomed fowl:
“Even when the neck of the fowl is halfway cut, it will still die. She herself has admitted to being under pressure to resign. People are advising her to step down because it’s obvious she will eventually go. What is left in that office that she is clinging to? Instead of prioritizing Ghana’s interest, she’s focused on her emoluments and benefits,” he stated.
