The Ashanti Regional Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Francis Adomako, popularly known as Francois, has cautioned the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, led by President John Mahama, not to abuse the power Ghanaians have given them.
According to him, instead of the government to concentrate on how best to get jobs for Ghanaians, come out with developmental projects and give us stable and affordable electricity, the government is rather focusing on persecuting his political opponents.

“Unfortunately, pastors, traditional leaders, civil society groups, labour unions and opinion leaders are all quiet as these things are going on,” he lamented.
The Ashanti Regional NPP Organiser, who is also the Dean of all Regional Organisers, gave the caution in an interview with “The New Trust” newspaper on Monday, 2nd June 2025.
His warning follows the continued detention of Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
President John Mahama
Chairman Wontumi has been given bail conditions of GH¢50 million with two sureties. As of the time of filing this report, the lawyers of Chairman Wontumi were yet to meet the bail conditions.
The huge bail has attracted several criticisms by the minority, leading members of the NPP, among others.
Francois reminded the Mahama administration and the security agencies that “power is transient. NDC won’t be in power forever. When the tables turn, let no one accuse the new government of any wrongdoing. You (EOCO, government) have set up bail conditions that are high to make it difficult for one to meet it, so you can keep the person in cells for your own desired time and frustrate him , his family and friends!”
Chairman Wontumi
He condemned what he termed as “the state-sponsored abuse of the rights of Chairman Wontumi.”
According to him, if not for political persecution and abuse of power, why should the security agencies treat Chairman Wontumi they way they have done.
He continued, “You invited the person and he respectfully honoured the invite at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and right after that, EOCO, fully armed, arrested him (Wontumi) in a Rambo style to its headquarters in Accra.”
“As if that was not enough, when they were done with him and he decided to go out, he was again arrested by the NIB in another Rambo style. Due to the unreasonable bail conditions, Chairman Wontumi has been in detention for seven days and still counting,” he added.
Francois, therefore, condemned the lawlessness of the state agencies who have allowed themselves to be used by the Mahama administration to abuse the rights of its political opponents.
Besides, he renewed his call for the media, civil society organisations, the clergy, among other stakeholders, to condemn the state-sponsored persecution of political opponents and other innocent Ghanaians in the name of investigations related to corruption and other offences.
