The leading telecommunications company in the country, MTN Ghana, has done it again by partnering with Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, to discover talented footballers in the region.
The competition received a major boost following the decision by the telecommunications giant to sponsor the competition as the title sponsor as part of the company’s commitment to promoting talents in young people.

The organisers disclosed that as a title sponsor, MTN Ghana is providing jerseys for the four semifinal teams, trophies as well as medals for the deserving winners, etc.
The region is set for an exciting football competition during the Easter holidays. According to the organisers, all was set for the U-17 soccer tournament, which is expected to take place this weekend and is aimed at unearthing talented young footballers.

The competition, which is under the auspices of Dr Frank Amoakohene, is structured to serve as a key vehicle or platform to nurture grassroots sports, especially football. .

Young footballers seized the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in the competition stages held at the various districts in the region. Interestingly, the district-level competition matches were done in the group stage attracted large crowds of football lovers across the various communities.
It would be recalled that the competition started last year, precisely in September 2025, where the various districts under the guidance of their sports committees played inter-community football matches to select players to represent the districts.Before the end of October 2025, all participating districts had their teams ready for the group stage competition to commence.
A total of 41 out of the 43 metropolitan, municipal, and districts across the region presented teams to participate in the competition.According to the organisers, 41 districts were drawn into 8 zones, with the first 2 top teams from each zone qualifying for the round of 16.
The underlisted districts that qualified for the round of sixteen include Afigya Kwabre North, Obuasi Municipal, Asante Akyem Central, Oforikrom, Adansi South, Afigya Kwabre South, Asaokore Mampong, and Asante Akyem South. Others are Kwabre East, Atwima Nwabiagya South, Atwima Kwanwoma, Sekyere Kumawu, Sekyere Afram Plains, Amansie West, Atwima Nwabiagya North and Sekyere Kumawu.Besides, the competition entered the knockout stage in February 2026, with the sixteen qualifying teams converging at Aboabo-Akorem within the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
The organisers pointed out that after two days of competition, they discovered the young generation of Ghanaian football talents display their football skills and dribbling abilities among the first 8 teams.The last eight teams comprise Afigya Kwabre North, Asante Akyem Central, Afigya Kwabre South, Asokore Mampong, Kwabre East, Sekyere Afram Plains, Atwima Nwabiagya North and Sekyere Kumawu.However, the quarter-finals of the competition were moved from Kumasi metropolis to Offinso Ahenkro amid intense competition.
At the end of games, four (4) districts qualified for the semi-finals.All was therefore set for the final stage of the competition, with the two semifinal matches and the grand finale slated for Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Paa Joe Park within Kumasi Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
It has been confirmed that the Afigya Kwabre North district will play Afigya Kwabre South in the first semifinal match, and Atwima Nwabiagya North will also play with Kwabre East in the second semifinal.
