Dr. Dacosta Aboagye Commissions Shama District Office of NHIS

 

 

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Shama on August 1, 2024, to commission the newly built NHIS office for the Shama District.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), highlighted the organization’s achievements over the past twenty years and outlined his 4-point vision:

  1. Promotive and Preventive Healthcare
  2. Curbing copayment/illegal charges at health facilities
  3. Issuing Ghana cards to children aged 6-14
  4. NHIS coverage for visitors

Dr. Aboagye emphasized the importance of prioritizing health through a promotive and preventive approach, encouraging citizens to adopt a healthy lifestyle. He indicated that with promotive and preventive healthcare now part of the benefits package, members will receive annual medical checks during their birth months.

District Chief Executive(DCE)for Shama, Mr. Emmanuel Dadzie, urged proper maintenance of the new office and acknowledged the innovative initiatives NHIA had taken to make the scheme more vibrant, particularly the NHIS short code *929 and the MyNHIS app.

The Chairman of the occasion and the donor of the parcel of land for the constructed building, Nana Isaac Kwamina Afful, thanked NHIA for completing the project on time and encouraged the people of Shama to register for NHIS cards to benefit from the expanded package.

Regional Operations Manager, Mr. Kwamina Takyi-Arthur, welcomed the CEO and his team and called for the completion of other building projects in the region.

Attendees at the event included Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah, Acting Director CAF; Mrs. Eva Okai, Acting Director H/R; Mr. Bernard Brown, Director, Southern Belt; Mr. Fred Appiah, Central Regional Director; and Miss Abena Ekufua Esia-Donkor, Acting CPC, Cape Coast.
