Focus on propagation of the gospel instead of anti-gay law – KMA PM to clergy & others

By:tntnewspapergh.com

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) presiding member (PM). who doubles as the national vice chairman of NALAG, Mr Patrick Kwame Frimpong has challenged clergy and imams across the country to intensify the preaching or propaganda of the gospel in order to win more souls for God instead of the LGBTQ+ debate.

They should also redouble or step up their education to their members to live faithful and righteous lives for God instead of the love for the flesh and the world.

The Bible says for lack of knowledge my people perished, and if anyone is in Christ, he’s a new creature; the old things have gone, and new things have come!

Speaking to “The New Trust” newspaper during the Easter festive season. Mr Frimpong, who is also the Dean of the Ashanti Presiding Members Association and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Safe Journey Foundation, a non-governmental organisation specialised in road safety, expressed concern about the current position and posture of many clergy/imams in the country as far as the anti-Bill is concerned.

He argued that instead of our men and women of God blaming the politicians for not passing the anti-law, they should rather channel their energy, strength and resources to create the needed education for their members to know what both the Bible and Qur’an teach about homosexuality.

Mr.Patrick Kwame Frimpong

Mr Frimpong’s comments follow the recent statement by President John Mahama that “LGBTQ+ is not Ghana’s top priority.”Mr Mahama has asked Ghanaians, especially civil society organisations, to exercise restraint and dialogue in the ongoing debate over the anti-gay bill currently before Parliament.

Acçording to KMA PM, besides God’s emphatic condemnation of such relationships, there’s no law in Ghana currently allowing a man to marry a fellow man or a woman to marry her fellow woman.

Traditionally, it’s not accepted, and no family, too, has or will accept sex relationships in Ghana.”The Bible says for lack of knowledge my people persist, so I think instead of our pastors, church leaders and imams apportioning blame on politicians or looking up to politicians to pass a law to check that act, they should rather educate their members and also reach out to those who have not accepted the knowledge to come to His saving knowledge.” I believe that no true believer of God will indulge in homosexuality.

Mr.Patrick Kwame Frimpong said “we’re aware that when there’s an outbreak of diseases, our health professionals embark on public education to create the necessary awareness for the public to avoid being infected. So it is expected of our clergy to also do the same.In any case, there’s a law against armed robbery, rape and defilement, but people who are not repentant are still engaging in those acts, so the simple passing of the anti-gay law will not automatically stop homosexuality. There is a need for committed and sustained efforts by all stakeholders.

I am therefore urging the clergy/imams to use their platforms and every opportunity to create awareness or educate their members first and the public via the gospel. Our Muslim brothers and sisters recently ended their 30 days of fasting and prayer, and Christians held rallies and crusades to make the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, but we should ask ourselves what messages did our clergymen/women and imams send to their members and unbelievers as far as homosexuality is concerned? So, for me, the clergy and imams relying on politicians to pass a law on anti-gay to end homosexuality is a non-starter”.Mr.Frimpong maintained that there is no section in marriage ACT,1884-1985 (CAP127) to back same-sex.”So my position is if the parliamentarians went to pass a law to accept LBTQ+ that one the clergy and imam can fight against it”.
