Former Assembly Member for Abirem Electoral Area Speaks on Mahama’s promise of giving Muslims extra holidays

The former Assembly Member for Abirem Electoral Area in the Kwabre East Municipal of Ashanti, Hon. Abdul Fatawu Yahaya ,says he is in full support of the decision by the former President, John Dramani Mahama to constitutionally add one more Islamic holiday if elected as the President.
It would be recalled that the former President, John Dramani Mahama in one of his recent campaigns expressed his readiness to allow Muslims in the country an extra Eid holiday in the next NDC government.

The former President,said he would push for Parliament to review the existing holidays to benefit Muslims,who a chunk of the Ghanaian population.
This, comments by the former President, has sparked public debate among Ghanaians, especially Muslim folks.
The former Abirem Assembly Member,was on the view that, Muslims being the second dominant religion in Ghana, must have equal opportunities when it comes to the celebration of religious festivals.
According to him, after 40 days of mandatory religious obligations of fasting, Muslims deserve an additional day for rest and to prepare for full activities.
He added that the current system is unfair and discriminatory as it prevents Muslims from fully expressing their Islamic faith as it is defined and safeguarded in the 1992 constitution.
