Mr. George Akom, Senior Assistant Registrar at the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) and Former Parliamentary Candidate for the Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency, has once again been honoured at the prestigious Ghana Prominent and Achievers Awards.

At the 3rd edition of the awards, held on Friday, September 5, 2025, in Kumasi, Mr. Akom received the Outstanding Politician Award, a recognition of his exceptional leadership, commitment to good governance, and impactful contributions to education, youth empowerment, and community development.

This latest achievement follows his 2024 award from the same institution, where he was celebrated as the Best Politician in Educational Advocacy, highlighting his tireless efforts in championing access to quality education and his vocal advocacy for educational reforms.
Mr. Akom is an accomplished educationist, public administrator, politician, and media contributor.
He holds a Master of Business Administration in Management Information Systems, a Bachelor of Education in Information Technology, a Three-year Teacher’s Certificate A, as well as professional diplomas in Information Technology.
In August 2025, he was conferred an Honorary Doctorate by the London Bridge Business School, UK, in recognition of his leadership and contributions to education and society.
He has also been conferred as a Distinguished Fellow of the Africa Institute of Public Administration, further cementing his role as a thought leader in governance and institutional development.
Beyond his academic and administrative career,
Mr. Akom has made significant contributions to the media landscape in Ghana. He is frequently featured on radio and television platforms, where he provides insightful commentary on governance, education, public policy, and national development issues.
His media engagements have amplified public awareness on critical social matters and have positioned him as one of the most respected voices on civic and political education in the country.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Akom expressed gratitude to the organizers and dedicated the honour to the people of Sekyere Afram Plains, noting that their support has been his greatest motivation.
“This award is not for me alone, but for every young Ghanaian who believes that leadership is about service, integrity, and sacrifice. I remain committed to working towards the transformation of our communities and the development of our nation,” he said.
The Ghana Prominent and Achievers Awards, now in its third year, is an annual event that celebrates excellence across politics, business, academia, philanthropy, and the creative arts, spotlighting individuals who demonstrate outstanding leadership and societal impact.
Aside from Mr. Akom, several other distinguished personalities were also honoured, including the Member of Parliament for Assin Central and the District Chief Executive for Assin North, who were recognized for their service and contributions to national development.
The event further celebrated the contributions of traditional leaders, dedicated health professionals, and herbal medicine practitioners, whose roles in community development, healthcare delivery, and the preservation of indigenous knowledge were highly commended.
The colourful ceremony brought together leaders from across the political, business, academic, and cultural spectrum, making it one of the most prestigious gatherings on Ghana’s awards calendar.
