PRESS STATEMENT BY GRASSROOTS AND IDENTIFIABLE GROUPS IN SUPPORT OF HON.HENRY KWABENA KOKOFU FOR ASHANTI REGIONAL CHAIRMANSHIP

Members of the press, distinguished ladies and gentlemen. Thank you very much for responding to our invitation. We have invited you here this morning to forcefully put our request across to the newly-elected flagbearer of our dear party, as far as the future leadership of our dear party is concerned.

As we are fully aware, very soon the mandate of the current leadership, led by the venerable and hardworking Chairman Wontumi, will soon come to an end. This will mark 12 years of a remarkbale leadership under Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, who has over the years
dedicated his life, energy and resoruces to steer the affairs of the party in this region.
Since he has announced his intention to puruse a higher cause, as in contesting for the national chairmanship, we will need another competent person like him to fill the vacant psotion once his term comes to an end.

Indeed we have seen some few names making rounds as potential candidates. Some of them,as we all know, have over the years been motivated by bitterness to contest and self-serving
interest to contest. Such persons, in our view, fall way short of the kind of standard and legacy carved by our current Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako.

It is against this backdrop that we, the undersigned grassroots members and identifiable groups of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, have come together to talk about one
important individual in the person of Hon. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, a man who has had an illustrious career both in politics and public administration.
We therefore wish to respectfully appeal to His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to prevail upon Hon. Henry Kwabena Kokofu to rescind his decision to contest for the General Secretary position and rather turn his to the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship
Our appeal is based on the following compelling reasons:
Firstly, as the NPP prepares for the crucial 2028 general elections, it is important that the Ashanti
Region, our party’s strongest political stronghold, is led by a chairman who is humble,
approachable, hardworking, and not bossy, and who possesses the proven ability to unite all
factions and fronts within the region. We strongly believe Hon. Henry Kwabena Kokofu embodies
these qualitiesSecondly, the Ashanti Region remains critical to the electoral fortunes of the NPP. Any serious
strategy aimed at securing victory in 2028 must prioritize strong, unifying, and results-oriented
leadership in this region.
Thirdly, Hon. Henry Kwabena Kokofu has an enviable track record of service to the party. He
worked tirelessly during his tenure as the Bantama Constituency Chairman and subsequently
served with distinction as Member of Parliament for Bantama, leaving behind a legacy of
commitment, discipline, and party loyalty.
Furthermore, Hon. Kokofu has consistently demonstrated his unwavering commitment and love
for the cause of H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. During the just-ended presidential primaries, he
openly supported Hon. Asenso Boakye and played a leading role in securing the Bantama
Constituency for Dr. Bawumia.
This is unlike some aspirants who decided to stay neutral and only entered appearance when it
became absolutely necessary.
Additionally, it is on record that Hon. Kokofu played a critical role in ensuring victory for Dr.
Bawumia in Bantama, despite the strong presence and campaign machinery mounted by Hon.
Kennedy Agyapong in the constituency.
We also wish to remind the public that Bantama is the hometown of Mr. Amofa Jantuah, the
Ashanti Regional Campaign Coordinator for Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, who worked tirelessly for
his candidate. However, through strategic organization, commitment, and grassroots
mobilization, Hon. Kokofu ensured a decisive victory for Dr. Bawumia in that constituency.
It is also important to note that another potential aspirant from Afigya Kwabre South, who is
seeking to contest for the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship, was unable to deliver significant
figures for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the primaries. This raises serious questions about
capacity, influence, and effectiveness ahead of the 2028 elections.
In view of all these considerations, we are therefore calling on His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu
Bawumia to appeal to Hon. Henry Kwabena Kokofu to make himself available and contest for
the Ashanti Regional Chairman position in the upcoming regional elections.
We firmly believe that Hon. Kokofu’s leadership will unite the party, energize the grassroots, and
position the NPP strongly for victory in 2028.
