I remain focused despite attacks on me ahead of NPP Flagbearer race – Bryan Acheampong declares

Presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Bryan Acheampong, says he remains resolute in his campaign despite what he describes as a barrage of attacks and false accusations in the party’s internal contest.

His comments follow backlash over a video circulating on social media that appeared to suggest he blamed fellow flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for the Mamprusi-Kusasi conflict in the north. His campaign has rejected the claims, insisting the video was “mischievously pieced together and venomously captioned.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Dr. Acheampong said, “Yes, I have come under a barrage of attacks. Falsehoods have been spread about me. Fake materials have been shared to question my character. But through it all, I remain focused, not on retaliation, but on restoration.”

He stressed that the internal contest should be driven by ideas and vision, not personal attacks. “This is a contest of ideas, of leadership, and of vision of power in focus. And it must be treated with the respect it deserves.”

The Abetifi MP further appealed to his supporters to conduct themselves with discipline and avoid engaging in offensive behavior. “I respectfully call on all who support me to refrain from intemperate language, personal attacks, and the circulation of false materials. Let us not mirror the tactics we seek to rise above.”

Dr. Acheampong concluded by underscoring that his campaign is about building unity within the NPP, not just winning the flagbearer slot.

“We are building something far greater than a campaign. We are building a movement to unite and rebuild our beloved New Patriotic Party. Let our words heal, not harm. Let our actions inspire, not inflame. Let our conduct reflect the future we are determined to lead. Together, we unite. Together, we rebuild.”
