I’m More than Qualified to Contest Ahafo Ano South West NPP Primaries-Elvis Dapaah Declares
One of the leading Contenders in the Ahafo Ano South constituency in the Ashanti region on the ticket of New Patriotic Party (NPP),Mr.Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah,has stated emphatically that he is more than qualified to contest and become the next Member of Parliament(MP) for the area.
According to him,“I’m more than Thirty (30) years and older than at least Four (4) incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Ashanti region alone so where from this propaganda that I’m too young to contest for the Ahafo Ano South West Seat.
I can tell you that I will be the first person in this constituency to pick my nomination forms if the Party officially opens nomination for the Parliamentary Primaries”, he added.

Mr.Dapaah,a young businessman affectionately called “Okumkom” was responding to a question from Journalists last Monday,16th July,2023 at Kunsu Roman Catholic Church after a campaign tour by Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia,the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.
The Vice President was in the constituency to interact with the Party’s delegates ahead of Flagbearer race.
On the age factor, the 1992 Constitution precisely Article 94 spells out Qualification and Eligibility of who can become a Member of Parliament (MP) in Ghana

Clauses (1) says “Subject to the previsions of this article, a person shall not be qualified to be a member of Parliament unless-(a) he is a citizen of Ghana, has attained the age of Twenty-One years and is a registered voter,
(b) he is resident in the constituency for which he stands as a candidate for election to Parliament or has resided there for a total period of not less than five years out of the ten years immediately preceding the election fir which he stands,or he hails from the constituency…
Mr.Elvis Dapaah is among more than five (5) leading members of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) who have so far declared their intention to contest the Party’s primaries.
Mr.Dapaah who is also the Financial Secretary for the constituency is said to be enjoying popularity across the length and breadth of the constituency because of his humanitarian support to hundreds of people in the area.He is currently putting up a constituency office for the party.

He has also initiated some developmental projects which includes; construction of Girls dormitory expected to accommodate about three hundred(300) students of Mankraso Senior High School(SHS) to help decongest the dormitory.
According to him, the major challenged confronting the constituency or the District was poor road networks and expresses the confidence in the Nana Addo led administration to fix the roads before 2024 general elections to make their work easy.He added that when he is given the nod as Parliamentary candidate and subsequently become the next MP his top most priority would be to lobby hard for the improvement of road networks in the area to make easy for farmers to transport their produce to market centres.
The Ahafo Ano South West MP hopeful stressed the need for the rank and file of the party to unite devoid of division because of pending Flagbearer race and Parliamentary primaries.According to him,NPP believes in democracy so “we should all allow the processes to go on for the delegates to decide who they want to lead as our Flagbearer and Parliamentary candidate for 2024 general elections”he pleaded.
The list of NPP leading members expected to battle it out with the incumbent MP,Hon.Johnson Kwaku Adu include; Prof.Peter O.Twumasi,the Director General of National Sports Authority(NSA),Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah,Businessman,Mad.Adwoa Adutwumwaa Boadi,a chartered Accountant who doubles as National Women’s Organizer for Friends of Dr.Bawumia(FOB),Lawyer K.K.Serbeh among others.
