The Minister of Energy, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Manhyia South Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh aka Napo, has stated emphatically that it is possible for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to win the 2024 presidential election with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, former President John Dramani Mahama, who doubles as the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 polls, will run away from Ghana ahead of the elections.
“I’m telling you that John Mahama will run away from Ghana ahead of the 2024 polls when NPP starts its campaign for the elections. We’re going to showcase our unprecedented achievements to enable Ghanaians to compare to expose Mahama’s lies and contradictory campaign messages. So I’m encouraging you to stand firm and don’t be afraid because it’s possible for us (NPP) to break the 8,” he said with confidence.

“NPP is yet to start its 2024 campaign. I’m encouraging you (the youth of NPP) to do more research and arm yourselves with our achievements and policies to let Ghanaians know the truth. All the Ministers of State are going to account to Ghanaians to know our good achievements compared to Mahama and NDC’s records,” he added.
He predicted that Dr Bawumia would be the next president of Ghana a year by now.
The Energy Minister who is highly tipped as a running mate to Dr. Bawumia made these comments at the Mega Ashanti Regional Youth Conference held at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi on Saturday,16th December 2023.

The conference was on the theme: “A formidable youth wing, a catalyst for breaking the 8”.
Napo reminded the participants that breaking the 8 largely depended on the youth of the party and the Ashanti Region in particular.
He said Dr Bawumia could only become President with a massive support from the Ashanti Region, especially from the youth in the region.
“It’s true that there is hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic among other challenges, the achievements of the NPP led by Nana Akufo-Addo are far better than that of the erstwhile NDC administration. So l can tell you that, a year by today, Dr Bawumia will have formed a transitional team to form the next Government,” he stated.
He said Dr. Bawumia and NPP would beat Mahama again in 2024, adding that “in the 2016 elections when he was even the sitting President, we (NPP) beat him by over one million votes. How much more now he is a retired President and wants to come back?”
He continued, “Is it not this same Mahama who said he was not a magician to give Ghanaians jobs? Mahama is on retirement and enjoying retirement benefits and what else does he want?
“It is the same Mahama who said a president can’t use four years to achieve much so what will he use four years for in an unlikely event that he wins the 2024 presidential election?”
He pointed out that Mahama and NDC said the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme was not going to be possible; however, under Free SHS, WAEC results had been the best even though they said NPP couldn’t do it.
“I promise you that if you all commit yourselves to publicise the good works of the NPP Government, we”ll break the 8,” he stressed.
According to him, no government since independence has supported the educational sector and teachers more than the Nana Addo Government, so if Mahama says he wants to cancel teacher licence exams, then he should prepare to cancel that of doctors and nurses as welll.
