Full PRESS STATEMENT BY CONCERN TEACHERS OF JENJEMIREJA CIRCUIT
We are here to express our deepest disappointment with Hon Williams Okofo Darte on his decision to neglect some of we teachers in the Jenjemireja circuit when he awarded teachers in the Jaman South municipality.
On the 19th of January this year, the MP organised Teachers’ Awards for teachers in the Jaman South municipality. The MP assured that he was going to award every teacher in the municipality with a token for their great service.
It was based on this assurance that we teachers in the Jenjemireja Circuit decided to honour this invitation and make it a success. Unfortunately for us, teachers in the Jenjemireja Circuit did not receive this token but were made to believe that ours would be brought to us later.
Even though this decision did not make sense to us, we still accepted it because we never had any doubts the honourable Member of Parliament would fulfill his promise to us. Sadly, this promise has never been fulfilled and we do not know when it would be fulfilled either.
To our outmost surprise, it was announced on various radio stations and all political platforms that the MP has awarded All teachers in the municipality which is never true.
We the Teachers in the Jenjemireja Circuit find it very worrying to hear on various radio stations and WhatsApp platforms everyday that the Hon MP has rewarded all teachers in the municipality when in fact, the Jenjemireja Circuit was deliberately excluded and neglected from the award scheme.
As teachers, we are always committed to working tirelessly to provide quality education to the students in the Jenjemireja Circuit and we deserve to be recognised and appreciated like our colleagues in the other circuits and any other teacher in the municipality.
We do not understand why the Hon MP would place much recognition on some teachers and deliberately leave out all teachers in one circuit. Even though we would continue to serve our country as teachers, we must however state clearly that the MP’s decision has seriously dampened our spirit and psychologically affected us so much. It tells how our efforts are not being recognised.
We want to ask the Hon MP the following questions.
1. Does he recognise the teachers in the Jenjemireja Circuit?
2. Why does he think the teachers in the Jenjemireja Circuit do not deserve the token as their counterparts in the other circuits?
3. Does he think he has been fair to the teachers in the Jenjemireja Circuit?
- Why has he failed to correct his party communicators from misinforming the general public that he has awarded all teachers in the municipality when in fact, he deliberately alienated and neglected some sections of teachers in a circuit?
As a public servant, the MP is mandated to serve all his constituents equally and without favour. But the Hon Member chose to be selective and neglected the Jenjemireja Circuit and still go on radio stations to misinform the general public that he has awarded everyone of us.
Finally, we wish to state that the MP’s decision to discriminate against the teachers in the Jenjemireja Circuit does not only demotivate and demoralise us, we find it insulting. We therefore urge him to reconsider his decision and give us the respect we deserve by fulfilling his promise to us and give us the very recognition as given our counterparts in other circuits.
Again, as a matter of urgency, we urge the MP to correct his party communicators on their misinformation to the public until he has actually awarded every teacher. Failure to do this would mean a gross disrespect to us and would not serve well on the MP’s credibility as an honourable man.
We all deserve better.
