There is growing grassroots support for the current Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah, to offer himself for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer election for 2028 since the current President, Mr. John Mahama, per the 1992 Constitution, cannot present himself for a third term.

To find a good replacement for him and ensure the party retains power easily, come the 2028 general election, many members of the NDC are rooting for Mr. Debrah to be given the chance to lead the party as its presidential candidate.

One of the leading advocates for this move is Mr. Abambila John, a member of Ashanti Regional communications team of the NDC.

In an interview with “The New Trust” newspaper over the weekend, the NDC communicator said, “Ghanaians want Hon. Julius Debrah to succeed H.E. John Mahama. I’ve engaged with many traders, businessmen, youths, drivers, among others, and they’re are yearning for Julius Debrah to succeed President John Mahama to lead us to victory in 2028.”

“I’m, therefore, appealing to the National Executive Committee (NEC), Functional Executive Committee (FEC), and other persons who have an interest to support Hon Hon. Julius Debrah when the time is fully due for the contest,” he said.

He added that Mr. Debrah is a winnable candidate for the NDC.

Abambila John maintained his earlier assertion that “Chief Julius Debrah is the rightful person to lead the NDC in the next general election (2028). His exemplary leadership as former & current Chief of Staff has earned him a strong reputation. With his impressive track record and high regard for humanity, he has effectively positioned himself as a potential NDC presidential candidate. Given his commitment to Ghana’s progress, we are likely to rally behind him in support of his presidential aspirations.”

He commended Mr. Debrah for his continuous demonstration of good leadership and humility in the Mahama administration.

“Mr. Julius Debrah has been humble ever since he became a Member of Parliament (MP), minister and currently Ghana’s Chief of Staff…Mr. Debrah continues to showcase his humility and respect for all. This is a kind of leader we all need to emulate. If he decides to contest, it’ll be a good idea,” he added.

The NDC communicator continued, “I know that this is not the time for the race but when Mr. Debrah, after President John Mahama, declares to contest as NDC flagbearer, we’ll all help him to win and become the next president.”
