MTN Ghana Foundation and Martha Inspires Foundation Commemorate International Day of the Girl Child

 

 

Tamale – October 17, 2024– In a collaborative effort to mark the International Day of the Girl Child, the MTN Ghana Foundation and Martha Inspires Foundation hosted a series of empowering events. This year’s celebration centred around the theme “Shift to Glow.”

The celebration began on Friday with an informative session where participants learned about the significance of the International Day of the Girl Child.

 

The session emphasized the importance of young girls being assertive and standing up for their rights. Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, Senior Manager for Corporate Communications graced the event as the Guest of Honor. She led engaging sessions with the girls, exploring their goals, dreams, and aspirations.

The girls were asked to imagine themselves as President of Ghana and share what they would do to empower girls. In another activity executed in just 10 minutes, the girls crafted inspiring poems celebrating the girlchild. Their talent and confidence were simply amazing.

On Saturday, the main event featured inspiring speakers who motivated attendees with insights on various topics. Parents, young girls, and women were encouraged to attend, fostering a community dialogue around the challenges and opportunities that girls face today. Essential topics treated included, Safe internet usage/ online practices for girls, Digital Parenting and online safety for parents, young girls, and women and Protecting children online: guidance for mothers including digital parenting and online safety.

Georgina Asare Fiagbenu underscored MTN Ghana’s commitment to empowering young girls and promoting gender equality. She said, “The empowerment of girls is essential for building a brighter future. Through our partnership with Martha Inspires Foundation, we aim to equip young girls with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in today’s digital world,” she added.

Two counsellors, Ms. Grace Afia Larbi and Ms. Bessy E.O. Boafo were key resource persons at the event.

The collaboration between MTN Ghana Foundation and Martha Inspires Foundation represents a significant step towards ensuring that girls are not only heard but also empowered to realize their visions for the future. This partnership aimed to educate girls on self-empowerment and online safety, equip parents with digital parenting skills and foster a supportive community for girls’ growth.
