The blood donation exercise, which has become an annual ritual, took place in three zones across various locations in the 16 regions of Ghana, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of blood.

The donation exercise is part of the celebration of love and giving synonymous with Valentine’s Day.

In the northern zone, the blood donation exercise took place concurrently at KNUST Senior High School, Bonwire Senior High School and Asanteman Senior High School.

It was quite impressive to see students on Friday, 14th February 2025, eagerly gathered to donate blood.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Simon Amoh, MTN Ghana Senior Manager, General Trade (Northern Ghana), revealed that since the exercise started about 14 years ago, 29,000 units of blood had so far been collected to the national blood bank.

He said, last year, they collected 5,000 units or points of blood and decided to increase it to 6,100 units of blood this year. “We’re very hopeful to meet our target with the support of our stakeholders,” he added.

Mr. Amoh, who was very grateful to their customers, staff and the general public for always supporting the exercise, indicated that the company would sustain the exercise.

According to him, the impact of the exercise for the past 14 years has been very significant and based on the feedback from the National Blood Authority, it encourages them to do more since there is still the need for more blood donors.

Mr. Amoh recognised the significance of giving back to society, hence the annual blood donation exercise.

He said, “We at MTN Ghana believe in the power of giving and what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than by donating the gift of life through blood donation.”

“We’re proud of the overwhelming support shown by students of the various schools, our customers, MTN employees, and the general public,” he added.
