MTN Ghana launches safe & robust self-service SIM swap initiative in Kumasi

The finest telecommunications network in the country, MTN Ghana, has officially launched safe and robust self-service SIM swaps initiative to enhance customers and potential customers satisfaction.

The initiative will allow customers to replace or swap their SIM cards through a simplified process, saving time and reducing the stress often associated with visiting service centers.

Speaking at the launching ceremony on Wednesday, 11th March, 2026, at Kejetia Dubai,in the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi,Mr.Nii Adotey Mingle, the Northern Business District manager, said before the official unveiling the Company undertook a pilot self-service SIM swaps exercise from October, 2025 to January, 2026,where 18,000 customers successfully used the platform at the comfort of their homes and offices.

He said that as telecom Company, which puts priority to its customers’ safety and satisfaction, “we’re putting the power to swap the SIM cards to our customers and potential customers.
According to him, the system is very secure and safe, with a robust facial verification process approved by the regulatory authorities.

Mr.Nii Adotey Mingle proudly stated that “from today, you don’t have to go to any MTN office or accredited agent office to queue anymore for your SIM swapping .You just need to buy an MTN SIM card, and everywhere you are across the globe, you can do your self-service SIM swapping.

According to Mr Mingle, the system is safe and very rebost to prevent fraudsters. We (MTN Ghana) don’t want our customers to stress for any service. Hence, we continue to come out with improved services.

Dr. Frank Amoakohene,therefore, commended MTN Ghana for introducing this independent channel, which prioritizes accessibility, stability, and proficiency.
Adding that innovations such as this does not only enhance customer experience but also support Ghana’s broader goal of building a robust digital economy.

The Minister said the telecommunications sector continues to be a major driver of socio-economic development. It supports businesses, facilitates financial inclusion through mobile money services, enables access to information, and strengthens communication across communities.

“In the Ashanti Region, the availability of reliable digital and telecommunications services is particularly critical to the growth and development of our region. As a commercial hub and a centre of innovation and entrepreneurship, our region requires strong digital infrastructure and efficient service delivery to support small and medium enterprises, students, and institutions.

This Initiative, the Self-Service SIM Swap contributes significantly to improving service comfort and strengthening consumer confidence in digital systems, “he stressed.
