MTN Ghana organises a blood donation exercise to celebrate Val’s Day… targets over 7,000 blood units

The largest telecommunications network in the country, MTN Ghana, has organised blood donation exercises across various centres to mobilise about 7,000 blood units for the National Blood Bank as part of the activities of celebrating  Valentine’s Day.

Mr Nii Adotey Mingle, the Northern Sector General Manager of MTN Ghana, revealed that in its quest to demonstrate love and compassion to the Ghanaian public, MTN Ghana Foundation has organised a nationwide blood donation exercise for the national blood bank for the past 15 years now.

“This year, our target is over 7,000 blood units across the country. We at the Northern sector are expecting to mobilise half of the figure, while those in the sector are also expected to mobilise another half of 7,000 blood units. In the last 15 years, MTN Ghana Foundation’s blood donation drive has contributed about 26,000 blood units to the National Blood Bank, and we’ll continue to embark on the annual blood donation exercise, which forms part of MTN’s corporate social responsibility.’

 

 

Mr Nii Adotey Mingle said this in an interview with journalists on Friday, 13th February, 2026, at Anglican Senior High School in Kumasi, where MTN Ghana, in collaboration with its partners and the Komfo Blood Transfusion Unit, organised another blood donation exercise to celebrate Valentine’s Day, which falls on 14th February every year.

The blood donation exercise, which has become an annual ritual, took place in three locations in the Ashanti region: Anglican SHS, Barekese SHS and Jachie Pramso SHS, respectively.Mr Mingle said the annual blood donation exercise by MTN, which is the biggest blood donation drive in the country, is part of the celebration of love and giving synonymous with Valentine’s Day.

The general manager said the impact of the exercise for the past 15 years has been very significant, and based on the feedback from the National Blood Authority, it encourages them to do more since there is still the need for more blood donors.Mr Nii Adotey Mingle recognised the significance of giving back to society, hence the annual blood donation exercise.

He said, “We at MTN Ghana believe in the power of giving, and what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than by donating the gift of life through blood donation?”We’re proud of the overwhelming support shown by students of the various schools, our customers, MTN employees, and the general public,” he added.

Speaking to the media, Dr Lesley Osei,The head of the medicine transfusion unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) heaped praises on MTN Ghana for its annual blood donation exercise.

According to her, per the records, the MTN Ghana’s annual blood donation exercise is the largest blood unit collection for the blood bank. We are very grateful to MTN Ghana for the support.

We’ll be in big trouble if they stop the exercise, so we encouraged MTN Ghana to keep up the good exercise to help us to continue to save lives.According to her, their average blood use per day is 80 blood units, which emphasises the importance of regular blood donation by Ghanaians.He allays the fear of Ghanaians, especially potential blood donors.

I can assure everyone that there’s no harm in donating blood to save lives.She also urged other corporate institutions to emulate MTN Ghana and organise blood donation exercises to support the national blood bank

Dr Lesley,  was very grateful to MTN Ghana and the staff of the company, the student donors, and the general public for always supporting the exercise.

It was quite impressive to see students on Friday, 13th February 2026, eagerly gathered to donate blood to save lives.

In an interview with Christian Blankson, a 29-year-old sprayer who joined the students of Anglican SHS to donate, he said he developed the interest in frequent blood donation after he lost his mother as a result of a lack of blood donors.”This is my seventh blood donation exercise, and I encourage each and every Ghanaian to cultivate the habit of blood donation to help save lives.’We shouldn’t entertain fear to donate blood because there’s no fear in doing it. I have donated 7 times, and nothing bad has happened to me.”
