The new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, has had an engagement with the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in Accra.

In his speech during his engagement with the GJA on 29th May 2024, he stated, “I’m in to take from where the past CEO ended and build on it. MTN Ghana is open for business to people who are ready to develop products & skills to put on their system.”

“I feel passionate that the next brightest network technology will come from Africa, probably West Africa, as part of my agenda here In Ghana.

“The media is very important and has changed to more of a digital system, and partnering with you will go a long way in breeding productivity as it will help circulate more information to people,” he added.

According to him, mobile phones have spread a lot of information to many Ghanaians, and the media has a very important role to play in ensuring that people get accurate information.

He said ensuring a free and fair media space is paramount to development as the biggest challenge in the media space is fake news which is the downside of it.

He continued, “My mandate is to grow our business more into the digital space, by partnering with an entity such as the Ghana Journalists Association.”

The President of the GJA, Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, said, “The Ghanaian citizenry are not spectators; they will criticize when things are not going accordingly.”

He shared some visions the current GJA have, with emphasis on capacity building to help take media practitioners up to standard for accurate practices, by ensuring the safety of the journalist for bold dissemination of accurate news.

“We are available to support you … as you have been sponsoring us as an association,” he concluded.
