Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has formally filed his nomination to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The filing took place on Wednesday at the NPP headquarters in Accra, where Mr Agyapong was accompanied by party executives and close allies.
Hundreds of loyalists thronged the party office, chanting and waving placards to show their support for the outspoken legislator, who has long positioned himself as a strong contender for the leadership of the ruling party.
“No Ken, No Vote!” NPP supporters chant as Kennedy Agyapong readied to address them after filing his nomination forms.
Kennedy Agyapong is now the second major figure to officially enter the race, which is expected to heat up in the coming months as the NPP prepares to elect its flagbearer to succeed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking to the supporters, he announced that “some people have ideas. But I have bold ideas and creativity.”

“We want somebody who can create businesses for the youth of this country.”
Party officials have confirmed that all necessary documents were duly filed, with Mr Agyapong expected to intensify his campaign in the coming weeks.
Yesterday, former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, was the first aspirant to officially file his nomination forms.
Dr Agyepong was swamped by supporters and well-wishers as he visited the party office in Accra to submit his application.
The NPP has set a clear window for flagbearer filings, which officially opened on July 29, 2025, and closes on August 28.
Also, the party leadership has scheduled January 31, 2026, for its presidential primaries to elect a flagbearer to lead the party into the 2028 elections.Source: Kenneth Awotwe Darko
