The Patriotic Youth Alliance (PYA), a group affiliated to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a strong statement calling for unity and strategic reforms following the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections.
The PYA’s press release issued on Friday (20 December) comes in response to allegations made by a group calling itself “Concerned Patriots for Change,” which accused party leadership of mismanagement and demanded mass resignations.
The PYA condemned these accusations as baseless and divisive, emphasizing the need for unity and adherence to the party’s constitutional processes to address grievances.
They called for a measured approach, including a post-election review to analyze the party’s performance, gradual leadership transitions, and a grassroots engagement program to rebuild trust among members.
Rejecting calls to dissolve the National Executive Committee (NEC), the PYA argued that such actions would deepen internal rifts at a critical time. They also advocated for constitutional reforms to strengthen party structures and avoid reactionary decisions.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to restoring the NPP’s fortunes through constructive engagement and urged party members to prioritize unity over divisive rhetoric.
Spokespersons for the PYA include Kwasi K. Frimy, Aboagye Amponsah, Alhassan Mohammed, and Kwadwo Kom, who collectively called for reflection and renewed efforts to rebuild the party

PRESS RELEASE BY PATRIOTIC YOUTH ALLIANCE*
DECEMBER 20, 2024
NPP NEEDS UNITY NOT DIVISION AND FALSE ACCUSATIONS AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME – PYA
We, the Executives and entire membership of Patriotic Youth Alliance feel compelled to respond to the statements made by the so-called “Concerned Patriots for Change” in their press conference held yesterday. While we share the common goal of rebuilding our party after the 2024 elections, we categorically reject the divisive, unsubstantiated, and inflammatory accusations made against the leadership of our great party at this moment in time when we need Unity of purpose to rebuild and Renergise the party.
Knowing very well that Our Flagbearer’s campaign team didn’t use the party structures for the 2024 Campaign, We believe that as a party, we need;
UNITY AND CONTINUITY: THE NEED OF THE HOUR
The NPP is at a critical juncture, and the strength of our party lies in unity, not division. The calls to dissolve the National Executive Committee (NEC) and demand mass resignations of party leadership are both reactionary and counterproductive. These actions would only deepen internal rifts at a time when we need cohesion and forward-thinking strategies.
Our party’s constitution and structures provide for due process in addressing grievances, and any attempt to bypass these democratic mechanisms undermines the very principles that define the NPP.
DEFENSE OF LEADERSHIP AND ACCOUNTABILITY
The Concerned Patriots for Change allege mismanagement of campaign funds and accuse the leadership of incompetence without presenting concrete evidence. It is irresponsible to cast baseless aspersions on the integrity of party leaders who have worked tirelessly, often under challenging circumstances, to serve the NPP.
If there are legitimate concerns about resource management, they should be channeled through established internal audit mechanisms rather than sensationalized in the media. Public mudslinging only serves to tarnish the image of the entire party and weaken our collective resolve.l
RECONCILIATION THROUGH DIALOGUE, NOT CHAOS
We recognize the importance of fostering reconciliation and inclusivity within the NPP. However, the reinstatement of dismissed members and a call for early congress should be based on merit, mutual respect, and adherence to party rules, not as an emotional reaction to electoral loss.
The NPP has always been a party of principles. While we welcome constructive dialogue with suspended or dismissed members, such decisions must align with the party’s constitution and respect the collective will of its members.
STRATEGIC PATH FORWARD: REFORMS WITH PURPOSE
Rather than resorting to divisive rhetoric, we propose a deliberate and measured path forward:
- Post-Election Review Committee: We support the establishment of a committee to investigate the root causes of the election outcome. This should be a fact-driven exercise that produces actionable recommendations, not a platform for blame.
-
Gradual Leadership Transition: Any leadership changes must follow the party’s constitutional timeline of electing its executives from Polling Station to National to ensure continuity and avoid plunging the NPP into disarray.
-
Grassroots Engagement: The future of the NPP depends on strengthening the grassroots. We advocate for a nationwide outreach program to rebuild trust, communicate achievements, and renew the faith of our members.
-
Constitutional Review: While constitutional reforms are necessary to address systemic gaps, this must be a well-planned and inclusive process, not a knee-jerk reaction to recent events.
OUR COMMITMENT TO THE NPP’S FUTURE
The Patriotic Youth Alliance of the NPP are committed to restoring our party’s electoral fortunes through constructive engagement, unity of purpose, and adherence to democratic principles. We urge all party members to reject divisive narratives and work together to rebuild the NPP into a stronger, more united force capable of delivering on its promises to the Ghanaian people.
This is not the time to tear down what we have built of the years since 1992 until date. It is a time to reflect, regroup, and redouble our efforts to serve the interests of the party and the nation.
Thank you.
Signed:
