The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP),has Published protocols to ensure free and Fair Parliamentary Primaries slated for Saturday,27th January,2024.
The General Secretary for the Party, Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong,who announced this on Monday,22nd January,2024 in Kumasi, urged all aspirants and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the protocols.
According to him,the Electoral Commission (EC),has been tasked to conduct the elections and no Government appointee or party official from constituencies to National level would be allowed to interfere.
The General Secretary said Ghana police has also been tasked to handle security issues devoid of body buildmen popularly known as Machomen at the premises of the voting.
The protocols,also banned camping of delegates, taking of pictures of voting, wearing of candidate’s T-shirt or campaigning on the day of voting.
He, therefore, urged the delegates to go with their Identification cards and wait to be cleared before allow to vote
He disclosed that, no Proxy voting would be allowed in the Saturday’s Parliamentary Primaries.
According to him, Saturday’s Parliamentary Primaries would start from 7:00am.and closes at 2:00pm across the country.
The general Secretary,also announced that Nhyiaeso delegates will take part in Saturday’s Parliamentary primaries.
He added that Hon.Kennedy Kwasi Kankam,the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the area and currently Municipal Chief Executive( MCE) for Asokore Mampong,has been cleared to contest in the Saturday’s Parliamentary Primaries.
He warned that Display of ballot by delegates to the public is against the protocols.
“Ghana Police will take criminal action on those who take pictures of their ballots”.
JFK,as he is affectionately called explained that,the party has formulated these rules and regulations to ensure free and fair elections and we believe that everyone should be allowed to feel free to walk to the polling centre to cast their votes. It is of this belief that we have made the statement that no one should camp delegates at any place”. He warned that “those who take pictures of their votes, aside from nullifying your votes, it is an offence and you would be handed over to the Police.”
