Spokesperson for former Education Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Yaw Opoku Mensah, has called on party members to rally behind Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, describing him as the unifying figure the party needs to secure victory in the 2028 general elections.
According to him, the NPP has a unique opportunity to unite for victory under the leadership and vision of Dr. Adutwum, whose commitment and strategic actions have consistently shown his readiness to reposition the party to its former glory.
Mr. Opoku Mensah cautioned against the continued existence of factions within the party, stressing that such divisions have over the years undermined the NPP’s progress and weakened its appeal to the Ghanaian electorate

“Factions in our elements have never helped us advance as a political party. They destroy our ranks, making us struggle for acceptance as we seek governance from Ghanaians,” he said.
He added that some individuals and their followers have continually demonstrated disregard for the collective emotions and aspirations of the party’s base, thereby “pressing the destructive button” at critical times.

“Individuals and their followers have repeatedly demonstrated their motives in pressing the destructive button, making it difficult to close our ranks for 2028,” he emphasized.
Mr. Opoku Mensah described Dr. Adutwum as a visionary and unifying leader whose focus on teamwork and progress aligns with what the NPP needs to rebuild confidence and win power in 2028.
“Dr. Adutwum has demonstrated his willingness to reposition the party to its glory as every action and strategy points to him as a unifying figure the party currently needs,” he noted.
He revealed that Dr. Adutwum has already begun touring parts of the country, engaging with party delegates and grassroots supporters as part of efforts to build consensus and promote unity ahead of the NPP’s presidential primaries.
Mr. Opoku Mensah added that several delegates across the regions have expressed confidence in Dr. Adutwum’s leadership qualities, urging all party members seeking leadership positions to emulate his example and put unity above personal ambition.
The NPP is expected to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
