Prof Addai-Mensah declares: We’re Repositioning KATH to be Patient focused facility

 

 

 

Professor Otchere Addai-Mensa, Chief Executive Officer for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has announced a major renovation and expansion of the facility’s Psychiatric Unit as part of its transformational agenda.

He disclosed that hospital had secured GHC 2.5 million funding from the Ghana Gas Company for the project.

The project is expected to transform the psychiatric unit from an 11-bed capacity to a 45-bed capacity including five Electroconvulsive rooms.

Presenting the hospital’s 2022 performance at its end-of-year performance review conference, Prof Addai-Mensah indicated the contract has been awarded and contractors are expected on site to begin work soon.

“I hope that the project is completed within the stipulated time to ensure the provision of first-class psychiatric services at KATH”, the CEO stressed.

Customer focus:
The CEO noted his management’s commitment to make KATH a preferred choice of persons seeking medical care in the country.

To realise this, he stated that management was currently working to satisfy patients who are their customers with quality and human centered services.

The Ghanaian patient, the CEO noted cannot be taken for granted again because they are exposed to best practices elsewhere and therefore demand same from wherever they visit for care.

“We at KATH are therefore determined to meet the customers taste for quality and humane care at every time of their visits”, the CEO posited.

Measures:
The CEO said series of measures have been drawn up to achieve the target of making Kath patient focused.

 

As part of this, the CEO noted that the hospital is focusing on mainstreaming customer care training and practices in all staffing training and orientations.

KATH, he revealed has introduced directors’ weekend and holiday duty roster to help maintain management’s presence and supervision during those periods.

He also mentioned the introduction of unannounced visits by directors during working hours to help maintain management’s physical presence at various operational areas as well as many other innovative measures to ensure optimum delivery of quality clinical service at the hospital.

The CEO also mentioned the use of about GHC 1, 670, 255 from the Internally Generated Funds (IGF) for the maintenance of both official and residential bungalows of the hospital in the period under review.Story By Michael Ofosu-Afriyie,
