The awesomeness of God’s creation has seen some uniqueness in the human race. Whereas, some are short others are tall, there are those who are light skinned while others are dark skinned.  While some others are plumy there are those who are skinny.

Although such differences ought to be celebrated that is not the case for many people. Globalization which has today made the world a global village has exposed many to medical procedures that can enhance the physique of a person.

Consequently people especially celebrities otherwise referred to as public figures have become more conscious of their bodies and will go to any extent to have it enhanced. Celebrities to a large extent are exposed to a much wider audience and their image is constantly under public scrutiny. Sometimes criticisms about their bodies are harsh, as members of the public become rootless when it comes to voicing of their opinion about celebrity bodies. In recent times, the preference of almost every female celebrity is a curvaceous body and will gloss over any possible side effect to go through the procedure.

According to Annual Plastic Surgery Statistics report, there were more that 17.7 million surgical and minimal invasive cosmetic procedures performed in United States of America . The statistics also revealed a rise in the nutrient in body shaping procedures with a spike in non invasive fat reduction as well as surgeries such as breast argumentation and liposuction .

Today in Ghana liposuction is the most sought after procedure for most women, especially celebrities. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that uses a suction technique to remove fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms or neck. Liposuction works best on people with normal weight and elastics kin.

Liposuction is performed in two separate contexts, reconstructive liposuction for medical reasons, and aesthetic liposuction to alter the body’s shape and outlines. Cosmetic liposuction appears to have few long-term effects and only short-term benefits. Like the majority of surgical procedures, liposuction entails some side effects and potential complications. Even so, the surgery is typically risk-free, with severe consequences being uncommon. When liposuction is complete, patients may have some side effects which includes bruising, swelling, scarring, post-operative discomfort, and numbness, among others. The bruise could hurt at first, but it normally goes away in a couple of weeks. Patients who bleed easily or who take medications like aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs are more likely to experience excessive bruising. Another typical side effect of liposuction is Swelling, which delays the recovery from surgery. Swelling often goes down after 1-2 months, but it might take up to 6 months.Scarring is another side effect. The complexity of the procedure and the number of necessary incisions determine how much swelling will occur. The majority of scars vanish within a few weeks, but healing might take up to a year.Post-Surgery Pain is another effect .Most operations, including liposuction, have this as a typical side effect. Pain is typically transient and can be managed with over-the-counter or prescribed painkillers. Last but not least is Numbness .Due to superficial nerve injury, the treated area may experience numbness for several weeks following surgery. Patients’ mobility may be limited depending on the extent of the procedure, and those who had their legs or ankles treated may have swollen ankles.Though may agree that, like any surgical procedure, liposuction comes with potential risks, Cosmetic surgery can sometimes go wrong and the results may not be what is expected. Experts are of the position that, the majority of risks depend on the technique used. In an interview with Dr. Dominic Obeng-Andoh, the Director of the Advanced Body Sculpt Centre, Accra , who has specialized in the area says when an individual undergoes the traditional type of liposuction, there is a chance that they may bleed. He also indicated that the approach employed during the operation involves injecting some fluid into the area being treated so when surgical tools are not in good working order, it’s likely for the patient to get an infection. He however advised that, it will be of good benefit, if all equipment are sanitized in order to prevent the contraction of bacterial infection. Dr. Obeng-Andoh added that standard liposuction is susceptible to infections. Surgical procedures to enhance one’s body are on a surge, as it is the only way some people view as a way to boost their self confidence. That notwithstanding there is those who prefer to loose weight naturally than surgical method to prevent all these side effects.
