With just a few days to the election of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer for 2028, slated for Saturday, 31st January, Asante Concerned Youth (ACY) has boldly publicly endorsed the two aspirants from the Ashanti region: Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum, who doubles as the former education minister and the incumbent member of parliament (MP) for Bosomtwe, and engineer Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, the former press secretary to former president John Agyekum Kufour, who was also a former general secretary of the party.

According to Asante Concerned Youth, they have being monitoring and listening to the various aspirants in the contest and strongly believe that the two candidates from Ashanti region stand tall among the five candidates and stand a better chance of maximizing votes for the NPP and also bringing the needed monumental development like what former President John Agyekum Kufour from the region did during his tenure as the President of the republic of Ghana.

The President of ACY pointed out that, history has shown that Ashanti-born leaders have significantly contributed to the development of the region and the country at large, citing the tenure of former President John Agyekum Kufuor as a clear case study. We all recalled that when Mr.Kufour was their leader flagbearer ,NPP got more votes from their stronghold (Ashanti region)

.Besides, when Kufour was President Ashanti region also had it fair share of the national cake.Key example are Kufour Accident and Emergency Unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).the Asafo interchange, he started the Sofo-line interchange, and the Krofrom Market and several road networks were constructed, just to mention a few.

To the group, another leader from the Ashanti Region would serve Ghana diligently and also accelerate development in the region.

The President of Asante Concerned Youth was quick to advise NPP delegates to do careful assessments of the track records of the two Asante natives and vote or choose one of them who truly served the Ashanti people well when they had the opportunity in government.

Mr.Ebenezer Nyamekye explained that “both Engineer Kwabena Agyei Agyapong and Dr.Osei Yaw Adutwum had the opportunity to serve in government and demonstrated commitment to national and regional development.Agyapong served as a Press Secretary during the Kufuor administration, while Dr. Adutwum served as Minister for Education under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.We have seen the contributions both of them made, particularly to the Ashanti Region.

It is now up to the delegates to decide who served the people of Ashanti and Ghana better and vote that person come January 31 NPP primary.

Mr Nyamekye explained that the group is non-partisan and does not belong to any political party. And that declaration of support was purely based on regional interest and performance, devoid of promotion of ethnicity or tribal sentiments.

“We’ve been doing this for many years now, and we’re not partisans. We support Ashantis wherever they find themselves.

If the National Democratic Congress (NDC) also presents an Ashanti candidate, we will equally throw our full support behind that person”,he hinted.“This is not about tribalism; it is about supporting our own.

When you compare the performance of President Kufuor to that of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, many Ghanaians will agree that President Kufuor performed better, including the massive electoral support he received in the Ashanti Region,” he added.

Stressing that “our expectation is that the delegates of NPPwill heed to our appeal or call and make a decision we believe will be beneficial to both the party,Ashanti region and the country in general.
