Information available indicates a mixed bag of joy and apprehension amongst young police recruits in the Ashanti Region, who are praying fervently for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to retain power to enable it to extend a magnificent police housing project to the region.
Many young police officers are said to be impressed with the beautiful project the government has done for the police service in the Greater Accra Region and are yearning for a similar one to be established in the Ashanti Region.
However, the fulfilment of their dream will depend on an electoral victory for the NPP in the upcoming December 7 elections.
The police recruits are, therefore, praying for the victory of the NPP as they fear any change in leadership may dash their hopes and aspirations.
During the inauguration of the 320-unit police housing project at Tesano in Accra last week, the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, heaped praises on the Akufo-Addo administration, describing the investments and support given to the police service under the current administration as unprecedented.
The beautiful housing project, located within the premises of the Police Training School, is fitted with state-of-the-art facilities expected to address the teething housing challenges which have bedevilled the service for several decades.
Some officers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed the hope that the NPP would remain in power so that the next administration under the leadership of Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia can extend a similar initiative to the Ashanti Region.
“We have seen the beautiful housing project at Tesano and we pray that a similar one can be done here in Kumasi for us to also enjoy. This government has done a lot for the police and other security agencies and we hope they can stay in power so that we can also benefit from them,” they stressed.
