As part of its efforts to 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 and strengthen the role of 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐫𝐭 in documenting stories of development and positive change across the African continent, 𝐏𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐦 (𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚) 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 African journalists, media professionals, and filmmakers to participate in the “𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐫” 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝, launched by 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐫 𝐄𝐥 𝐊𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 to celebrate cinematic works that highlight 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐬, 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬.



The award provides African creators with an opportunity to present their works that reflect 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 in the social, environmental, and economic fields. This highlights 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 as a tool for awareness, creating impact, and promoting dialogue toward a more sustainable future.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 “𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐫” 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦:
• Journalists and media professionals.
• Young and amateur filmmakers.
• Media and film students.
• Small production companies.
• Institutions and organizations documenting their development projects.
𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚:
• The film must have been produced within the 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬.
• The film duration must be 𝐧𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝟐𝟎 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬.
• The film must address topics related to 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 in the social, environmental, or economic fields.
• The filmed materials must be 𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐫 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬.
• Accepted categories include 𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐬.
• Arabic or English subtitles must be provided for films not in Arabic.
• The film is not required to have received its first screening at a film festival.
The “𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐫” 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 is based on the belief that 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐝, and that media and art represent bridges capable of sharing inspiring experiences, raising awareness of common issues, and highlighting models that create real change within communities.
